The Pharmacy Assistant plays a key role in the daily operations of the dispensary and front-of-shop, supporting the pharmacist in delivering high-quality patient care, ensuring accurate medication dispensing, and maintaining excellent customer service. The pharmacy assistant will support the safe and compliant supply of medicinal cannabis and general pharmaceutical products and medicines within this pharmacy.
This is a full time role: 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
What you'll be doing
Dispensary Support and Customer Service
Support the pharmacist in the daily operation of the pharmacy.
Assist where required, in dispensing medicinal cannabis and general prescription medicines under pharmacist supervision.
Receive and verify the accuracy and authenticity of prescriptions.
Review and record patient information in compliance with Pharmacy Guild guidelines.
Provide accurate and compassionate customer service in person and over the phone.
Answer incoming calls to confirm orders, take payments, and respond to general queries.
Provide instructions to educate customers on the correct and safe use of their medication (under pharmacist guidance).
Assist with delivery orders with packing and sealing of parcels ready for collection.
Assist with documentation for SAS-B and Authorised Prescriber prescriptions and approval letters.
Support pharmacist-led patient follow-ups, appointment scheduling, and data entry related to medicinal cannabis supply.
Maintain basic knowledge of cannabinoid therapies, formulations, and storage requirements.
Maintain basic knowledge of all front-of-shop items.
Stock and Inventory Management
Stock the pharmacy shelves and dispensary (including S8 safes) with incoming inventory.
Assist with inventory control, including rotation, expiry-date checking, and restocking.
Support monthly stocktakes and report any stock discrepancies or shortages.
Administrative and Operational Duties
Perform data entry accurately for patient records and order tracking.




Process transactions using point-of-sale systems, including medicinal cannabis and OTC items.
Maintain general cleanliness and order in the dispensary and pharmacy workspaces including packing room.
Support execution of in-store promotions and product displays.
Compliance and Safety
Follow all relevant procedures, protocols, and pharmacy SOPs.
Maintain security of medicines, particularly Schedule 8 and unregistered medicinal cannabis products, in accordance with legislative requirements.
Ensure patient records and regulatory documentation are stored securely and confidentially.
Comply with state and federal pharmacy legislation, including WHS and Equal Opportunity laws.
Security
Maintain pharmacy security, including assisting with secure opening and closing of the pharmacy as required.
Maintain security of front and back entry where required.
Education and Development
Participate in relevant training, including medicinal cannabis education and professional development.
Stay informed about new products, pharmacy services, and industry developments.
Support training of new assistants as required.
Core Skills
Excellent organisation and time management skills.
High attention to detail and accuracy, especially when handling prescriptions and patient data.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Basic to intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
Friendly, professional demeanour and a commitment to high-quality patient care.
Experience working in a pharmacy or retail health setting.
Certificate II or III in Community Pharmacy or working towards.
Experience working with Schedule 8 medications and/or medicinal cannabis processes.
Familiarity with the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and SAS-B/Authorised Prescriber workflows.
What we offer
$25 – $30 per hour + super, depending on experience
Monday to Friday hours, no weekends
