Operational Assurance Coordinator, Cyber Security and Assurance

The Cyber Security and Assurance Section ensures the AEC is well positioned to monitor, detect, investigate, and respond to cyber security threats posed to the AEC and broader electoral integrity. The section also ensures that the AEC's cyber security activities align with regulatory requirements, policies, and risk management obligations.
The role of the Operational Assurance Coordinator, within the Cyber Security Operations Centre (SOC) team, is to ensure that processes, controls, governance arrangements, and operational activities are conducted consistently, effectively, and in line with organisational and government security requirements.
The section's cyber security responsibilities include:
Providing cyber security advice and support to the AEC and projects within the AEC;
Providing cyber security assurance for the AEC's ICT environment and systems.
Delivering operational (day-to-day) cyber security functions, including monitoring, incident management, and incident resolution; and
Conducting cyber-related investigations.

The key duties of the position include:




The Operational Assurance Coordinator supports the Security Operations Centre (SOC) team and the IT Security Advisor in managing cyber security-related patching of AEC systems and ensuring compliance with mandated security controls. This role manages patching activities in a liaison capacity, providing coordinated advice and support to system administrators.
As an Operational Assurance Coordinator, you will contribute to monitoring SOC activities for compliance with security policies, procedures, and standards. You will evaluate SOC workflows for effectiveness and assist in identifying gaps, risks, and opportunities for improvement. The Operational Assurance Coordinator also plays an important role in preparing operational assurance reports, metrics, and dashboards, while supporting the implementation of new tools, controls, and assurance activities.

To excel you'll have:
We are seeking a motivated and capable professional who can demonstrate the skills, knowledge and experience required to perform successfully in this role.
Demonstrated experience contributing proactively within a cyber security operations team environment.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders and prepare clear reports and documentation.
Sound judgement and the ability to work independently while taking responsibility for assigned work and contribute positively to team outcomes.
Well-developed conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of Commonwealth security frameworks, including the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and Information Security Manual (ISM).
Relevant qualifications and/or experience in cyber security.
