Job Description
About the company Our client is a substantial, family-owned Australian fresh produce business with integrated growing, harvesting, packing and distribution operations. Its multi-region model supports year-round supply of potatoes, carrots and onions to national markets.
About the role
Based in Parilla, South Australia and reporting to the Head Agronomist, you will bring specialist knowledge to a multi-region fresh produce operation. The immediate focus is practical crop support and stronger agronomy capability, with regular travel initially. As the senior agronomy structure develops, the workload and travel are expected to become more focused.
Guide commercial onion, potato and carrot crops across planting, irrigation, crop monitoring and harvest
Work closely with farm managers to make practical and timely crop decisions
Contribute progressively to fertiliser and input programs, budgets and procurement
Support seed planning and broader agronomy planning with the Head Agronomist
Mentor junior agronomists and strengthen practical capability across the team
Use production data and technology to support sound agronomic decisions
Travel across growing sites, including regular travel in small aircraft
About You
You are a commercial agronomist with genuine, hands-on experience.
Your overall career stage is flexible: you may be ready to develop into a broader senior remit or bring robust expertise from an established career.
In either case, you make grounded crop decisions, work well with farm teams and build trust before changing established systems.
Practical commercial agronomy experience, ideally with root crops like onions, potatos and carrots
Sound knowledge of crop health, irrigation, inputs and production decisions
Hands-on experience working with farm managers through the full crop cycle
Ability to learn an established production system and improve it thoughtfully
Clear communication and the capability to mentor developing agronomists
Comfort working across multiple sites and travelling regularly
Data, technology or precision-agriculture capability will be well regarded
The Benefits
This is a strong opportunity to develop your agronomy career with a growing, family-owned business, including potential progression toward a Head Agronomist role.
$150,000-$200,000 + Super, dependent on experience and expertise
Company housing, including family-suitable accommodation
Company vehicle
Travel across diverse growing regions
Potential retention or KPI-based incentive
