Psychiatry Principal House Officer / Registrar | Mackay, Queensland RANZCP Accredited Training | Stages 1–3 | Mental Health & AODS | Tropical North Queensland
Temporary Full-Time | 76 hours per fortnight
Sante Recruitment is seeking a Principal House Officer / Psychiatry Registrar to join the Mental Health and Alcohol & Other Drugs (AODS) team at Mackay Base Hospital.
This is an excellent opportunity for a doctor seeking broad clinical exposure within a comprehensive regional mental health service, with the benefit of working in a department accredited by the Royal Australian and Recent Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) for Stages 1, 2 and 3 training.
The Opportunity The successful applicant will contribute to the delivery, development and ongoing improvement of high-quality mental health services across the Mackay Hospital and Health Service.
The position provides exposure across inpatient and community mental health services, working alongside experienced psychiatrists and multidisciplinary teams.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Provide assessment and management of mental health patients across inpatient and outpatient settings
- Participate in the delivery of comprehensive psychiatric care
- Work collaboratively with psychiatrists, medical staff, nursing and allied health professionals
- Contribute to clinical education and the development of medical knowledge
- Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and clinical meetings
- Develop skills across a broad range of psychiatric presentations
- Contribute to quality improvement and service development
- Work across multiple locations within the Mackay Hospital and Health Service as required
RANZCP Training & Development The Mackay Mental Health service is RANZCP-accredited for Stages 1 to 3, making this an attractive opportunity for doctors progressing through Australian psychiatry training.
The service provides access to a broad range of clinical environments and patient presentations,
supporting ongoing professional development and progression towards specialist psychiatry training.
About the Mental Health & AODS Service Mackay Mental Health and Alcohol & Other Drugs Service provides a comprehensive range of specialist mental health services across the region.
The service includes:
- 24-bed acute mental health inpatient unit
- 6-bed Step-Up Step-Down Unit
- Acute Care Service
- Consultation Liaison Psychiatry
- Continuing Care Team
- Mobile Intensive Rehabilitation Team
- Early Psychosis Service
- Child and Youth Mental Health
- Older Persons Mental Health
- Alcohol & Other Drugs services
- Community mental health services
- Outreach services to Moranbah and the Whitsunday region
- Assertive Mobile Youth Outreach Service
The Child and Adolescent Mental Health service is supported by two designated mental health beds within Mackay Base Hospital for crisis intervention, with links to the Townsville Adolescent Unit for patients requiring longer admissions.
This breadth of services provides excellent exposure to different areas of mental health and psychiatry within a single regional health service.
