New Product Development Team
Breville values the diverse perspectives of its team members which help create award winning, innovative small domestic appliances time and time again. Our world-renowned, multi-disciplinary New Product Development Team is based in Sydney and comprises of highly experienced researchers, food specialists, industrial designers, UX designers, mechanical design engineers, electrical engineers, software engineers and quality engineers.
We’re very motivated in translating new ideas into engaging user experiences. We take the time to understand food science and user research, we talk to the industry experts, we investigate new technologies, and we stretch our manufacturers’ capabilities.

Underpinning this growth is Breville’s product development methodology that is entrenched in a rich history of exploration, experimentation, and iterative development to balance product feasibility with improved user experiences.
Purpose
As a Senior Industrial Designer, you will take ownership of design-led thinking and execution across complex projects, playing a pivotal role in shaping Breville’s product experiences. You are expected to operate with a high degree of independence, consistently demonstrating craft excellence,
sound judgment, and strong commercial awareness. This role represents a shift from contributor to leader and mentor, where your influence extends beyond individual execution to include project direction, junior designer growth, and contribution to team culture.
You will help define the future of design at Breville by mentoring, role modelling, and championing excellence in process and outcomes. Senior Designers are expected to anticipate needs, identify opportunities, and create strategic design value that aligns with business goals.
Senior Industrial Designer
You lead the design execution of complex projects, delivering high-quality outcomes, balancing desirability, viability, and feasibility. You mentor junior team members and contribute to building a positive culture. You collaborate seamlessly across disciplines while focussing on strong execution and growing influence within the design and product development process.
About you
- Qualification
Tertiary qualification in Industrial Design or related field.
- Experience
10+ years in product design with leadership in complex projects.
- Technical skills
Expert in CAD, DFM, DFA, manufacturing processes, and user research
Drives innovation

Key Attributes
- Senior Designers lead the execution of complex projects, demonstrating ownership, maturity, and the ability to align Design Direction with brand and business goals.
- They consistently set a high standard across concept development, CAD modelling, prototyping, and visual communication, serving as role models for execution quality.
- Deep empathy for users, applied across research, ideation, usability testing, and experience design ensuring solutions are intuitive, inclusive, and impactful.
- Senior Designers anticipate business and user needs, contribute to strategic decisions, and identify opportunities that align with broader organisational goals.
- They actively mentor junior designers, offering guidance across craft, mindset, and process, playing a vital role in developing the team’s capabilities and confidence.
- Advanced knowledge of manufacturing processes (e.g., injection moulding, casting, sheet metal fabrication) and the ability to precisely resolve complex detail design challenges.
- Ability to work fluidly with cross-disciplinary partners, including engineers, PDMs, and suppliers, navigating constraints and aligning on shared outcomes.
- Strong understanding of intellectual property principles and the ability to identify, document, and protect innovation opportunities with commercial value.
- Comfort working independently with structured workflows, documentation, and handover practices ensuring clarity from concept to production.
- A balanced, constructive presence—leading with humility, open-mindedness, and a commitment to continuous improvement and team culture.
