Southern Machinery Services was established in 1986 as a specialist engineering company to provide a total engineering service to users of rotating and process machinery. We specialize in refurbishing plant and equipment and manufacture all parts in-house.

We are classified as an Essential Business, some of the industries supported by SMS include Oil & Gas, Agriculture, Power Generation, Water Authorities, Steelworks, Mining, & Building Services.

We are looking for a multi-skilled metal tradesman - First Class Machinist Mechanical Fitter.

/n

/n

Responsibilities:

/n
/n

- Analyzing blueprints and specifications to select appropriate materials, methods, operation sequences, and machine settings.

/n
/n

- Installing fabricated metal components into products and assembling metal parts and subassemblies to create machines and equipment.

/n
/n

- Inspecting fabricated and assembled metal parts for precision, fit, and clearance using precision measuring tools.

/n
/n

- Adjusting guides, stops, and other controls on machining equipment, setting up necessary cutting and shaping tools and dies, and configuring controls for textile machinery.

/n
/n

- Shaping metal stock and castings to exact tolerances using tools for pressing, cutting, grinding, planning, boring, and drilling.

/n
/n

- Cutting, threading, bending,



and installing hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines.

/n
/n

- Preparing pattern mechanisms for controlling textile machinery used in spinning, weaving, knitting, sewing, and tufting fabrics.

/n
/n

- Diagnosing faults, performing routine maintenance on machines, and overhauling and repairing mechanical components and fluid power systems.

/n
/n

- Potentially assembling and installing machines and equipment on-site.

/n

/n

Skills Required:

Education and Qualifications:

- Relevant qualifications

/n
/n

- 10 years of experience

/n

/n

/n

/n

Experience: At least 10 years of previous fitting or similar mechanical role experience. Hands-on experience with machinery assembly and maintenance.

/n

/n

Technical Skills: Proficient in reading technical drawings and using precision measuring tools. Skilled in metalworking tools and equipment.

/n

/n

Knowledge: Understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Familiar with safety procedures in industrial settings.

/n

/n

Physical Abilities: Able to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods. Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity.

/n

/n

Problem-Solving Skills: Strong at diagnosing and troubleshooting machinery faults. Efficient in repairs and maintenance.

/n

/n

Communication Skills: Clear communicator with team members and supervisors. Competent in following and providing instructions.

/n

/n

Attention to Detail: Accurate in measurements and assembly.

/n

/n

Certifications and Licenses: Relevant trade certifications or safety training preferred.

Adaptability: Flexible with different tasks and work environments.
