The Opportunity
We’re looking for a full-time Research Engineer to join our Research & Development (R&D;) team in Rosehill, NSW.
The Research Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of defined technical tasks, components or sub-systems within R&D; projects. This role ensures designs and technical solutions move successfully from concept through to implementation, on time and within agreed specifications. The Research Engineer contributes to technical innovation, cost reduction, and quality improvement across new and existing products and processes, working closely with cross-functional teams.
The salary range for this role is $95,000-$105,000 + super.
What you’ll do
- Support the delivery of all technical tasks for a project from concept to implementation and handover to manufacturing.
- Participate in planning, preparing, and running trials of new and existing equipment, technologies and products.
- Preparation and testing of samples including analysis, reporting and presentation of data.
- Regular update and presentation of projects to shape and get agreeance on plan, direction and technical deliverables.
- Collaborate effectively with manufacturing team, vendors and suppliers to deliver the best solution to the business.
- Coordinate the build of physical prototypes, draft test plans, and run empirical tests to prove out designs.
- Serve as the technical contact for suppliers, troubleshooting manufacturing defects or assembly line issues.
- Ensure that James Hardie’s operations are in line with Work Health and Safety Requirements at all times.
What you’ll bring
- Bachelors or higher degree in Engineering such as Process/Chemical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering preferred
- Preferably 3+ year’s relevant experience
- Proficiency in standard parametric modelling tools and data management systems for revision control
- Solid knowledge of material properties, fatigue, and structural mechanics for common metals and plastics
- Understanding of design constraints for specific processes like machining, sheet metal fabrication
- Familiarity with digital metrology tools, sensors (e.g., strain gauges, load cells), and data logging equipment
- Robust interpersonal, verbal,
and written communication skills
- Demonstrated experience in planning and executing R&D; and factory trials
- Demonstrated experience in project engineering
- Demonstrated ability to innovate, prototype and demonstrate new ideas quickly and safely
- Demonstrated ability to participate in many projects concurrently and flexibility to quickly change focus to meet the challenging business requirements of Research and Development
- Preferred experience in coaching and mentoring
- Preferred experience in generating and capturing Intellectual Property to build on JH competitive advantage
