This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished and forward-thinking curriculum leader to shape the strategic direction of Science learning at The Cathedral School. As Head of Department – Science, you will provide visible instructional leadership across Years 7 to 12, set high expectations for curriculum, pedagogy and assessment, and build the capability of a collaborative team of educators to deliver consistently excellent practice. Commencing in January 2027, this permanent full-time teaching and middle-leadership position is suited to an experienced Science educator who is ready to lead improvement, influence whole-school priorities and make a sustained impact on teaching quality and student outcomes.

In this Role, You Will

- Lead the delivery of Science curriculum, pedagogy and assessment across Years 7 to 12, including alignment with the Australian Curriculum and relevant QCAA syllabuses.
- Develop the quality of teaching and learning in the department, by guiding teachers’ development of professional knowledge, professional practice, and professional engagement.
- Improve student learning outcomes by evaluating and revising programs and instructional classroom practice, analysing student data, taking account of feedback from students, parents, and colleagues, and considering current research on effective teaching and learning.
- Create an environment that is positive, skilled, collegial, and responsive to the mission, aims, and strategic direction of the school.

What You’ll Bring

- Bachelor of Education, or a relevant degree in Science or a related discipline supported by a postgraduate teaching or education qualification.
- Current teaching registration with the Queensland College of Teachers.
- Relevant expertise and demonstrated success in teaching Science across Years 7 to 12, including senior secondary Science subjects, combined with a clear commitment to leading high-quality curriculum,



pedagogy and assessment.
- Highly developed leadership, communication, interpersonal and organisational capabilities, with the credibility to establish a clear direction, build collective responsibility and foster positive relationships with students, colleagues and families.
- Deep knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and relevant QCAA syllabuses, with demonstrated experience leading curriculum design, review and implementation and developing clear, coherent scope and sequence documentation at faculty or department level.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing educators through a clear vision, purposeful collaboration, mentoring, feedback and accountability, using the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, the Australian Teacher Performance and Development Framework, evidence and student data to strengthen teaching practice and outcomes.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates, or willingness to obtain these prior to commencement.
