About Us:

The Strathbogie Shire is a vibrant and progressive rural municipality located about two hours from the Melbourne CBD along the Hume Highway. We have diverse and picturesque communities served by townships such as Euroa, Nagambie, Violet Town, Avenel, Longwood, Ruffy and Strathbogie.

The role will:

We are seeking a motivated and capable leader to join the Community Safety team as the Coordinator Community Safety. In this role, you will provide day-to-day leadership, supervision and support to the Community Compliance Officers, ensuring workloads are effectively allocated and prioritised and compliance matters are managed consistently and within required timeframes.

This role will also provide technical guidance, mentoring and professional development to build team capability, support sound decision-making and ensure a consistent approach to compliance activities. Through regular team meetings, one-on-one discussions and performance development reviews, you will foster a positive, accountable and team-oriented team culture focused on community safety, education and proportionate enforcement.

What you'll be doing:

- Undertake proactive and reactive inspections of Development Sites to ensure Compliance with the relevant planning permit and approved plans issued under the Planning and Environment Act and the Strathbogie Shire Planning Scheme and other relevant legislation.

- Assist the planning department where required with phone calls or counter enquiries regarding enforcement issues.

- Undertake interviews of alleged offenders and prepare briefs for prosecution.





- Assist Council appointed solicitors and represent Council with prosecutions in Court or at the Victorian Civil Administrative Tribunal where necessary.

- Assist with development and implementation of strategies to ensure responsible animal ownership.

- Attend to animals that have been impounded within Councils Pound facility ensuring that all aspects of the Code of Practice are adhered to.

Who we're looking for:

- Someone with the ability to determine appropriate action in relation to service enquiries including selecting from a range of alternative courses of actions or referring to appropriate Council Officer or community agency.

- Someone with the ability to recognise sensitive and/or potential serious citizen service problems and deal with these in an appropriate manner.

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the application of the Planning and Environment Act 1987, and other relevant legislation and Local Law provisions related to Local Government Compliance.
