The prospect
The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia is seeking an experienced lawyer to join its Legal and Integrity team as an EL2 Senior Legal Counsel in Sydney.
This senior position offers the opportunity to contribute to strategic decision making, governance, integrity and workplace management within one of Australia's largest federal courts.
Working closely with the Executive Director, Legal and Integrity, you will provide strategic legal advice across workplace relations, employment and industrial relations, WHS, integrity, complaints, investigations, litigation management and governance.
The role
You will provide authoritative and practical advice to senior Court leadership on complex, sensitive and high-risk matters, including:
- Workplace relations, employment law, industrial relations and WHS
- Governance, integrity, administrative law and organisational risk
- Workplace disputes, complaints and investigations
- Procedural fairness, privacy and decision-making frameworks
- Litigation involving the Courts, judicial officers, registrars and staff
- Coordination of external legal advisers and counsel
- Preparation of legal advice, executive briefs, reports and correspondence
- Mentoring and guidance to lawyers and staff.
What you'll need to succeed
You will require:
- Tertiary qualifications in Law and admission as a practitioner of the High Court of Australia and/or Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory
- Minimum 6 years' post admission experience as a legal practitioner, in house counsel or equivalent
- Experience advising across workplace relations, employment law, industrial relations, WHS, investigations, integrity and/or governance
- Strong judgment and the ability to provide strategic, practical advice on sensitive matters
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
- Demonstrated leadership capability and strong organisational skills
Public sector, court, tribunal or government legal experience is highly desirable.

The salary is $173,816 to $180,629 plus 15.4% superannuation, with a total package of $200,584 to $208,446. A package above the advertised salary may be negotiated with the successful candidate depending on skills, qualifications and experience.
