Who’s hiring?

The City of Burnside is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Historical and Cultural Officer to coordinate the delivery of our local history and cultural programs, celebrate the stories that make our community unique, and care for the valued Burnside Local History Collection. Based within our Community Connections team, this exciting 12-month opportunity offers the chance to make a meaningful contribution to heritage preservation, cultural engagement and community connection.

So, what’s the role?

Reporting to the Team Leader Library and Volunteers, you will coordinate and deliver Council's historical and cultural initiatives while building strong relationships with community groups, volunteers, researchers and stakeholders. The role combines collection management, program delivery, volunteer coordination, community engagement and project management. Key responsibilities include:

- Managing and preserving the Burnside Local History Collection.

- Developing, delivering and evaluating historical and cultural programs and events.

- Supporting research enquiries and providing specialist local history information services.

- Building relationships with cultural organisations and community groups, including First Nations communities.





- Coordinating and supporting the Local History volunteer program.

- Preparing grant applications and contributing to project funding opportunities.

- Promoting Burnside's rich history and cultural heritage through educational and community engagement activities.

- Managing projects, contractors and partnerships to achieve strategic outcomes.

Enough about us…let’s talk about You!

You are an enthusiastic and community-minded professional with experience in local history, cultural development, museums, heritage, archives or a related field. You enjoy working with diverse audiences and are equally comfortable conducting research, developing programs, managing collections and engaging with volunteers. To be successful, you will bring:

- Experience designing and delivering community-based historical and cultural programs.

- Experience working with culturally diverse community groups and stakeholders.

- Collection management experience, including cataloguing, preservation and classification.

- Robust project management, organisational and communication skills.

- Experience leading or supporting volunteers.

- A relevant tertiary qualification and/or demonstrated experience in history, heritage, museums, archives, cultural studies, curatorial practice or a related discipline.





- An understanding of local government and the role heritage and culture play in building connected communities

The position is part-time (2 days per week) on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract classified at Level 4 plus 12% superannuation under the City of Burnside Administration Employees Enterprise Agreement 2023.
