ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
In contributing to the overarching vision, the Trainee Engineer provides assistance to the Design and Technical Services Business Unit by way of quality engineering design work relating to road, stormwater drainage and traffic functions.This role will provide timely professional advice on engineering matters to contractors and residents as well as provide quality survey, design and set out for engineering projects.
Reporting to the Executive Engineer Infrastructure Design, this role will conduct investigation and assessment of Civil Infrastructure related matters as directed by the Supervisor.
The successful applicant will require:
- Completed minimum 2 Years of Civil Engineering Degree
- Completed Surveying Unit in Undergraduate Degree
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and MS applications
- Knowledge of surveying equipment including Total Station
- Time Management skills
- Ability to meet deadlines of a daily basis
- Problem-solving skills
- Report writing and oral communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment with other staff, and /or consultants on special projects
- Demonstrated understanding and commitments to WHS and EEO principles across all activities within the organisation
- Class C drivers licence
- Hold a current General Construction Induction Card (White Card).

About this role:
- Term contract (6 months), full-time position
- 70 hour fortnight
- Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO) arrangement
- Located at Council's Auburn office, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations
- Please note this position is available to UTS students only to be completed through the UTS work placement program.
Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.
- Trainee Salary Structure of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,035.80 to $1,292.86 per week, plus 12% superannuation
- The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
What you'll need to have for this role:
- The right to live and work in Australia
- Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
- Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council’s Health Monitoring Procedure, as required.
