About the role
The Network and Systems Engineer is a high performing engineering role encompassing people, program and stakeholder management responsibilities. This role works with a considerable degree of independence and under broad direction.
As a Network and Systems Engineer, you will be expected to:
- Develop, operate and maintain the ACMA’s network infrastructure environments, ensuring support standards are met.
- Deliver a range of services using Cisco’s ecosystem and integration with other Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) products and services, (including Fortinet suite of products, DWDM, Umbrella).
- Uplifting and maintaining Essential 8 principles within the ACMA’s operating environment.
- Provide expert engineering guidance and leadership within one or more technology domains.
- Monitor and manage network services provided by third party providers.
- Support and troubleshoot network issues within a software defined network framework.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedure documents for the ACMA’s network environment.
The Network and Systems Engineer will have a robust understanding of Security-first solutions and best working practices within the ICT environment. You will develop, manage, and maintain a range of internal and external stakeholder relationships and professional networks. This role will suit an individual who has a diverse Cisco networking background and has a willingness to develop core skill within the Microsoft Azure Cloud ecosystem related to networking services.

The ACMA has made a large investment in hybrid infrastructure, recent projects include a full network refresh, datacentre establishment, DR rebuild, HCI migration, server modernisation and a raft of cybersecurity initiatives.
We are seeking an experienced Network and Systems Engineer, who has a wide range of experience and skills to support the ongoing delivery of these projects as well as ability to develop and maintain our network infrastructure services.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Strong technical knowledge and operational experience managing complex network infrastructure and services within a corporate or Government ICT context.
- Proven experience providing technical leadership within a team with a focus on the security, reliability, performance, sustainment and maintenance of network infrastructure and services.
- Proven results planning, managing and implementing ICT projects with an emphasis on delivering positive outcomes aligned with organisational priorities.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, essential for leading a team and collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement, stakeholder engagement and innovation, including advocating best practice approaches and automation.
- Ability and willingness to adapt quickly to changing expectations and priorities by being agile and flexible.
- Desirable Information Technology related tertiary qualifications (or equivalent vendor certifications).
- Operational knowledge of and demonstrated experience across a broad range of Cisco technologies and services.
- Previous experience in developing, implementing, and managing solutions within Federal Commonwealth Government departments or as an embedded resource from an MSP.
