The Opportunity
ASIO’s Operational Infrastructure team is looking for a skilled skilled to help manage and evolve a sophisticated technology stack. In this role, you will innovate, build, and sustain the capabilities that enable ASIO’s work. In a diverse and agile group, you will collaborate with experts from across the technical spectrum to solve complex problems and deploy cutting-edge solutions that meet critical requirements.

We are looking for candidates who are team players and self-starters who can drive projects forward independently.
A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies which have the same or similar requirements to this position. This merit pool will be valid for up to 18 months.
The key duties of the position include:
Responsibilities
As an IT Solutions Developer – Systems Engineer (ITE1.1 and ITE2) in ASIO, you will:
- Select and implement appropriate systems design methods and tools, balancing predictive (plan-driven) and adaptive (agile) approaches to ensure optimal project delivery.
- Conduct impact analyses on major design options, evaluating technical trade-offs to ensure scalable and resilient infrastructure solutions.
- Validate system designs to ensure the strategic selection of technology, efficient resource utilisation, and the seamless integration of complex, multi-vendor systems.
- Balance functional and non-functional requirements within system designs to ensure performance, availability, and maintainability standards are met.
- Contribute to the evolution of system design policies and standards, influencing the selection of core architectural components.
- Assist with managing the lifecycle of security administration policies, ensuring they remain fit-for-purpose, current, and rigorously implemented across the environment.
- Monitor compliance frameworks for security administration, proactively auditing systems to identify and remediate potential security breaches.
As an IT Solutions Developer – Systems Engineer (SITE C) in ASIO, you will:
- Define and govern the selection of system design methods and tools, establishing the framework for when to apply predictive versus adaptive (agile) methodologies.
- Direct the architectural evaluation of major design options, leading the analysis of complex trade-offs to ensure long-term strategic alignment and operational viability.
- Provide authoritative oversight and quality assurance for system designs, ensuring that technology selections maximise resource efficiency and integrate seamlessly across the enterprise ecosystem.
- Find the balance between competing functional and non-functional requirements,
ensuring that system performance and resilience align with organisational risk appetite.
- Lead the development of enterprise-wide system design policies and architectural standards, steering the selection of core components to ensure future-proofing.
- Strategise the roadmap for infrastructure implementation and maintenance, overseeing the high-level design of physical and virtualised environments to support evolving mission requirements.
- Establish the governance framework for infrastructure changes and maintenance, ensuring that deployment routines are standardised, low-risk, and highly available.
- Establish the compliance and auditing regime for security administration, leading the identification of systemic vulnerabilities and directing the remediation of potential security breaches.

Skills and qualifications
Candidates are required to have the following qualifications:
- For the ITE1.1 and ITE2 levels: a tertiary degree or other qualifications in a STEM field relevant to the position, and on the job experience within one of the relevant technical skills listed above.
- For the SITE C level: a tertiary degree in a STEM field relevant to the position, and/or minimum 2-years on the job experience in one of the technical skills listed above where you were a technical specialist and leader.

To be eligible to work at ASIO, you must be:
- an Australian citizen
- assessed as suitable to hold and maintain a TOP SECRET-Privileged Access (TS-PA) security clearance.

Employment conditions
Employment is under the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Act 1979. Conditions of service are similar to those applying in the Australian Public Service. We recognise entitlements accrued under the Public Service Act 1999 and provide for continuation of superannuation under the Commonwealth schemes. Salary packaging arrangements are also available.
