The Role
Reporting to the Assistant Director Information Management, the Information Management Advisor plays a key role in supporting DEWR's information management capability through the delivery of complex operational, analytical and governance functions. Working under limited direction, the role manages information asset lifecycle activities, procurement and contract management processes, supplier relationships, reporting obligations and information governance initiatives.

The role undertakes analysis across information management systems, data and business processes to identify risks, opportunities and improvements. It provides specialist advice and recommendations to support compliance, informed decision-making and the achievement of departmental objectives.

The Information Management Advisor manages competing priorities across business-as-usual operations and project activities, exercising judgement, initiative and problem-solving skills to deliver outcomes in a dynamic workplace.



The role works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, contributes to continuous improvement initiatives and supports the ongoing maturity of the department's information management capability.

Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the APS Level 6 include:

- Leading and delivering complex information management projects and initiatives, managing schedules, risks, dependencies and deliverables to achieve organisational outcomes.
- Managing the lifecycle of physical and digital information assets, including appraisal, sentencing, retention and disposal activities in accordance with legislative, regulatory and departmental requirements.
- Undertaking analysis of information management systems, data sources and business processes to identify trends, risks and opportunities, and recommend improvements to business practices and controls.
- Preparing high-quality reports, briefs, submissions and analytical products to support governance, monitor performance and inform evidence-based decision-making.
- Providing authoritative advice and guidance on information management, records management and information governance obligations, supporting business areas to achieve compliance and best practice outcomes.
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, negotiating outcomes and influencing decision-making to support the delivery of information management services and initiatives.
- Managing relationships with contracted service providers, including overseeing service delivery, monitoring performance, resolving issues and contributing to procurement and contract management activities.




- Contributing to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of information management frameworks, policies, procedures and governance arrangements, while promoting organisational capability and a culture of accountability and compliance.
