The bureau provides information, advice, support and services across Australia about our weather, water, oceans, space weather and the climate. To do this, we need to form strong relationships across all levels of government to ensure when it’s needed, we can work together to support the community.
The Team Lead, Strategic Government Engagement, sits within the Government Relations team and reports to the Manager, Government Relations. The Government Relations team is responsible for ensuring the bureau meets its obligations and responsibilities to its minister, parliament and other government departments/agencies.
As the Team Lead, Strategic Government Engagement, you will proactively and strategically support and grow the bureau’s relationships with other government departments and agencies. This is a new role to implement and support the bureau's strategic government engagement framework.
In this newly established role, your first priorities will be to develop tailored stakeholder engagement plans and establish processes to support the bureau's engagement with government.
You will be a strategic thinker and have exceptional judgement, be flexible and innovative, as well as have an outstanding ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines and diverse stakeholders.
You will need highly developed oral and written communication skills to be able to present your ideas in a compelling manner and you will be a networker who has well-developed liaison skills and can form relationships quickly.
This is an exciting role for anyone with strong existing networks and stakeholder management experience within government and a passion for government agencies and departments working together to achieve better outcomes.

The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
• lead the implementation of the bureau’s strategic government stakeholder engagement framework through the development and implementation of tailored engagement plans
• support the bureau’s relationship with government agencies and departments by identifying issues and opportunities that promote and explain the bureau’s contribution to government, industry and the community
• establish processes to support bureau executives in understanding stakeholders and opportunities, including use of the CRM tool
• provide guidance and expert advice to bureau staff about stakeholder management.
• communicate effectively and persuasively, in writing and verbally
• gather intelligence and analyse the effectiveness of external engagement to help inform current and future engagement strategies, including a biennial review of the strategic government stakeholder relationships
• build strong, trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
• work collaboratively as part of a small team, connect outcomes of strategic government engagement work into the outcomes of the other parts of the team, and support broader Government Relations team functions as required
• take responsibility for the achievement of outcomes, monitoring progress and follow through to deliver quality outcomes
• manage multiple and competing priorities by being resilient, responsive and flexible.

and taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of employees, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your conduct.
Eligibility
A degree or diploma of an Australian educational institution, or a comparable overseas qualification, which is appropriate to the duties; OR other comparable qualifications, which are appropriate to the duties.
