The Non-State Schools Accreditation Board Secretariat is seeking two permanent full time Senior Regulatory Officers to support the Board’s statutory functions relating to the accreditation of non-State schools, governing body suitability, eligibility for government funding, ongoing compliance monitoring and investigation of potential non-compliance.
An education background may be useful but is not essential. We are seeking strong regulatory, administrative decision-making and/or legal experience, sound judgement and the ability to communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders.

About You:
You will be highly organised and able to navigate complex and sensitive regulatory matters. You will bring highly developed analytical, written communication and stakeholder engagement skills, together with sound judgement and attention to detail.
You will be able to interpret and apply legislation and policy, assess evidence and regulatory risk, and make defensible recommendations about proportionate courses of action. You will also be able to manage competing priorities and a high volume of work, meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality and contribute to consistent regulatory practice.

Your opportunity:
As the Senior Regulatory Officer, you will provide high-quality analysis, recommendations, advice and information to support the Non-State Schools Accreditation Board to perform its statutory functions. Your work will apply the principles of good administrative decision-making and contemporary, risk-based regulation, and contribute to regulatory reforms and initiatives under the relevant legislative frameworks.
The Senior Regulatory Officer reports to the Manager, Non-State Schools Accreditation Board Secretariat, Early Childhood, Regulation and Communication Division.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Undertake regulatory assessments and activities that support the Board's functions under the Education (Accreditation of Non-State Schools) Act 2017 and Regulation, applying the principles of procedural fairness and good administrative decision-
- Assess applications and other matters relating to school accreditation, governing body suitability and eligibility for government funding, and prepare evidence-based recommendations for decision.
- Monitor ongoing compliance with accreditation criteria, governing body suitability and government funding eligibility requirements,
and identify, assess and respond to regulatory risk using proportionate, evidence-based approaches.
- Gather and analyse information and evidence, support investigations into potential contraventions or non-compliance, and escalate matters or recommend regulatory action where appropriate.
- Contribute to regulatory policy, procedures and practice improvements informed by legislation, operational experience, stakeholder feedback, evaluation and data analysis.
- Provide clear, accurate and timely advice and information to the Board, governing bodies of non-State schools, sector representatives, parents, departmental officers and other stakeholders, while managing expectations appropriately.
- Prepare accurate, concise and well-reasoned correspondence, reports, briefs, decision records and recommendations, and maintain reliable records and high-quality data in regulatory systems.
