Wavell State High School is seeking a Head of Department, Science (0.20 FTE) to join them on a part-time temporary basis, until 10 December 2027. Wavell offers a wide range of science subjects and has partnerships with Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) and the University of Queensland.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead quality teaching and learning in a vibrant, diverse Science Department.
This position is being offered in a Temporary Part-Time capacity commencing 20 January 2027 at (0.20FTE), 10 hours per fortnight. Negotiations are welcomed to add an additional incumbency at 0.8 FTE with teaching to make this a 1.0 FTE workload.

Your chance:
Negotiations are welcomed to add an additional incumbency at 0.8 FTE with teaching to make this a 1.0 FTE workload.
You will be a key member of the Leadership Team demonstrating strong communication, relationship-building, analytical and leadership skills, with the ability to lead change and work collaboratively to achieve positive outcomes.
You will establish and promote high standards for student achievement and staff performance, providing leadership and guidance to teachers to strengthen curriculum delivery and teaching practice. You will encourage a culture of reflection, professional growth and lifelong learning, supporting staff to engage in ongoing professional development and continuous improvement.
A key responsibility will be embedding socially just practices in daily school life and promoting an inclusive learning environment where all students are supported to participate and achieve. You will work collaboratively with staff to identify and respond to student needs while maintaining a strong focus on quality teaching and learning.
