Working across our Housing & Homelessness programs, you'll have the opportunity to support people through day, evening, overnight and weekend shifts in a variety of service settings.

About the Role
Every day, Ruah supports people facing some of life's most complex challenges, including homelessness, family and domestic violence, mental health concerns, and social disadvantage. As a Casual Support Worker, you'll play a vital role in helping people access safety, stability and support while making a genuine difference in your community. Offering flexible day, evening, overnight and weekend shifts across multiple programs, these casual opportunities start from $45.28 per hour plus superannuation.
We are seeking Casual Support Workers to join our Housing & Homelessness team. Successful candidates will ideally be available to work across multiple programs and a variety of shifts, including evenings, overnight shifts and weekends.
Ruah Engagement Hub (REH)
8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday
Based in Northbridge, REH provides a welcoming daytime environment where people experiencing homelessness can access practical support, advocacy, referrals and connections to essential services.
After Hours Support Services (AHSS)
3:30pm to 11:30pm, Monday to Friday
AHSS delivers outreach and tenancy support to people who have recently transitioned into housing, helping them maintain stable accommodation and improve wellbeing.
Safe Night Space (SNS)
6:30pm to 11:30pm and 12:00am to 7:00am, 7 days per week
SNS provides a culturally safe overnight space for women experiencing homelessness, family and domestic violence, and other vulnerabilities, offering safety, support and connection to further assistance.
Key Responsibilities
As a Casual Support Worker, you will:
- Provide person-centred support to people experiencing homelessness and other complex challenges
- Build positive relationships and support participants to access services and achieve their goals
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to a safe, high-quality service environment
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external stakeholders

About You
You are compassionate, resilient and committed to supporting people experiencing disadvantage.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Completion of, or progress towards, a relevant qualification (Certificate III or above) in Community Services, Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), Youth Work, Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Housing & Homelessness, or a related field; and/or relevant work experience and/or lived experience
- Experience supporting people experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, alcohol and other drug concerns, family and domestic violence, or other complex support needs
- Solid communication, engagement and relationship-building skills
- The ability to work independently and contribute positively within a team environment
- Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office and client management systems
- An understanding of cultural safety, diversity, inclusion and trauma-informed practice
- Availability and willingness to work across REH, AHSS and SNS as required
- Availability and willingness to work evenings, overnight shifts and weekends
Essential Requirements
- Current Australian Driver's Licence
- National Police Clearance
- Working with Children Check
- Current Senior First Aid Certificate
