About the Role
The Principal is the educational, operational and community leader of East Preston Islamic College, accountable to the Board. The Principal is responsible for:
• the safety and wellbeing of every pupil;
• the quality of teaching and improved student outcomes at all levels and all
stages;
• an inclusive culture, encouraging professional growth and improved performance of staff, and;
• the responsible management of the college’s resources and reputation.
The Principal is driven by an Islamic ethos that commits them to seeing that every student learns successfully and works toward their potential in a spiritually positive, safe and nurturing learning environment.
Key areas of responsibility include:
• Ensure Strong Governance and Compliance
Operate within legislative, regulatory and governance requirements, ensuring
compliance with all relevant standards, policies and industrial obligations.
• Lead Child Safety and Risk Management
Maintain ultimate responsibility for child safety, mandatory reporting,
regulatory compliance and a strong culture of safeguarding across the school.
• Support Effective Board Governance
Implement Board-approved strategies and policies, provide informed advice
and reporting, and contribute to policy development and continuous
governance improvement.
• Drive Educational Excellence
Lead a culture of high-quality teaching and learning, promoting strong student
outcomes and continuous improvement through evidence-based practice.
• Oversee Curriculum Quality and Compliance
Ensure curriculum, assessment and educational programs meet regulatory
requirements and support excellent learning outcomes.
• Lead Strategic Planning and School Growth
Translate strategic priorities into operational plans, manage enrolments, and
drive sustainable growth and future development of the school.
• Manage Financial, Operational and Infrastructure Performance
Oversee financial management, technology, facilities, procurement, risk and
day-to-day operations to ensure effective and sustainable school performance.
• Build High-Performing Staff and Leadership Capability
Lead workforce planning, recruitment, performance management, professional
development and succession planning to strengthen organisational capability.
• Lead Organisational Change and Culture
Foster a positive, innovative and high-performing culture, managing change
effectively while promoting accountability, collaboration and continuous
improvement.
• Strengthen Faith, Community and Stakeholder Engagement
Promote and model the values of Islamic education, build strong relationships
with families, staff, students, the Board and the wider community, and actively
contribute to the school's identity and mission.

You will bring:
• A demonstrated commitment to Islamic values and the ability to authentically
model and promote these principles in leadership, decision-making and daily
school life.
• Significant educational leadership experience, with a proven track record of
improving student outcomes through evidence-informed teaching, learning
and wellbeing initiatives.
• The capacity to articulate a compelling vision, lead strategic change, and foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and accountability.
• A strong commitment to child safety and student wellbeing, underpinned by a
thorough understanding of governance, compliance and regulatory
responsibilities.
• Exceptional people leadership skills, including the ability to mentor, develop
and empower staff while maintaining high expectations for performance and
professional growth.
• Sound operational and financial acumen, with experience overseeing
resources, workforce planning, risk management and organisational
performance.
• Outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the
ability to build trusted relationships with families, staff, students, the Board
and the broader community.
• High levels of emotional intelligence, courage and resilience, enabling you to
navigate complexity, manage change and lead confidently through challenge
and opportunity.

• The professional credibility, educational expertise and strategic capability to
lead a growing and ambitious learning community into its next phase of
development.
Requirements
• A recognised degree in Education; postgraduate qualification in Educational
Leadership preferred.
• Current registration (or eligibility) with the Victorian Institute of Teaching
(VIT).
• Leadership, inclusion and well-being experience across primary and/or
secondary contexts, ideally within a faith-based or values-driven school.
• Understanding of Islamic pedagogies and the integration of faith within a
contemporary educational setting.
