As The Austin Vet Specialists continues to grow, we are seeking passionate and multi-skilled individuals experienced in reception and veterinary nursing to join our team.

This role is a unique role that combines specialist veterinary customer service, administration, and emergency patient triage. As one of the first points of contact for referring vets, clients and patients, you will play an important role in helping people navigate their pet's care while supporting our clinical teams to provide the right care, at the right time.

We are looking for someone who brings a combination of veterinary nursing qualifications, exceptional customer service skills and the ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced environment.

You will be the calm and compassionate voice guiding referring vets and clients over the phone, the welcoming face greeting owners and their pets at reception, and the dynamic person who triages incoming emergency and urgent care patients.

This is a fast-paced, varied, and highly rewarding role, where you will:

- Welcome clients and effectively manage the flow of our busy reception area

- Handle a high volume of telephone calls and emails, with professionalism, accuracy and care

- Screen enquiries and schedule appointments to ensure patient care

- Process payments via cash, EFTPOS, and other methods including insurance claims and VetPay

- Assess incoming emergency calls and triage patients presenting for urgent care

- Gather relevant information about emergency patients' symptoms, current status and healthcare needs to ensure continuity of care

- Act as a key liaison between clients and our clinical teams

About you

The ideal candidates will have the following skills and expertise:

- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and a minimum of 2 years' experience working in a veterinary clinic.

- Previous experience in veterinary reception/client services, or extensive customer service experience (minimum 3 years) in a similar environment.

- Sound knowledge of best-practice animal health care techniques and practices.

- Professional attitude with strong communication skills both verbal and written.

- Excellent interpersonal skills with sound conflict resolution skills.

- Ability to maintain a positive demeanour and stay calm under pressure.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately prioritise and perform a range of tasks.

- Capacity to work in a team environment and the confidence to handle a variety of situations without direct supervision.

- Computer skills,



including veterinary practice management system and MS Office.

- A genuine love for helping people and their pets.

This is a permanent position, with shifts ranging from Monday to Sunday and predominantly involving working afternoon and night shifts. We are open to considering part-time hours (including weekends) for the right person.
