Defect Assistant
Key Selling points of role:
- Entry-level opportunity supporting quality assurance across new build housing projects.
- Ideal for a current Construction or Project Management student, or recent graduate, wanting practical site-based experience.
- Multiple Casual roles are available.
What you’ll be doing
As Defect Assistant, you’ll support CHL’s quality assurance processes by helping identify, document and track defects across recent build sites. Working under the direct supervision of Asset Maintenance Officers, you’ll record defects accurately, capture photographic evidence, complete quality checklists and maintain timely updates in the online portal. You’ll also work collaboratively with CHL and site-based teams to support efficient defect reporting and monitor the status of work orders through to completion.

We’re looking for someone who is studying Construction or Project Management in their second year or above, or who has graduated within the last six months. You’ll bring strong attention to detail, explicit written and verbal communication skills, confidence using technology and a proactive, reliable approach. You’ll be comfortable working within timeframes, using a smartphone to capture photos and markups for defect reporting, and willing to obtain a Construction White Card if you do not already hold one. Access to steel cap boots is required, with PPE such as hi-vis and hard hat provided on site.
Above else, we’re looking for people who bring our values to life every day:
- People first: Every person matters.
- Built on integrity: Do the right thing.
- Relentless in delivery: Make an impact.
