Experienced Nursery Assistant
Gympie & District Landcare Group — Casual
Approximately 15 hours per week, including Saturdays
Wages: Level 3 under the Nursery Award 2020, casual rate.
Do you have nursery experience, a sound knowledge of native plants and a passion for excellent customer service? Gympie & District Landcare Group is seeking a reliable, experienced Nursery Assistant to join our nursery team in Araluen, Gympie.
Gympie Landcare is a community-based, not-for-profit organisation supporting native plant production, environmental restoration and community involvement in caring for our local environment.

This hands-on role combines retail customer service with practical nursery work, helping customers select plants and supporting the production and care of healthy nursery stock.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing friendly, knowledgeable customer service and advice on plant selection and care.
- Processing sales through the nursery’s point-of-sale (POS) system, including cash handling and electronic payments.
- Undertaking propagation, watering, plant maintenance, irrigation and pest control.
- Supporting day-to-day nursery retail operations.
- Entering and maintaining accurate nursery records.
- Working cooperatively with a diverse and changing team of staff, volunteers and trainees.
We are looking for someone with:
- Several years of general nursery experience, preferably working with native plants.
- Nursery retail experience and excellent customer service skills.
- A Certificate II or III in Horticulture, Nursery Operations or a related field is desirable.
- Experience using point-of-sale (POS) systems and handling cash accurately.
- Sound general knowledge of native plants.
- Practical skills in propagation, plant maintenance, irrigation and pest control.
- Valuable data entry skills and confidence using Excel and Word; experience with nursery management software is desirable.
- A positive, adaptable approach and strong teamwork skills.
- Reliability and availability to work Saturdays.
- A current Blue Card, or the ability to obtain one.
- A current ACDC ticket.
- A current open driver’s licence.
