We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to provide specialised clinical support for a NDIS participant living with quadriplegia. This role requires a nurse with demonstrated experience performing suprapubic catheter (SPC) changes, including the ability to safely complete SPC catheter changes in a client’s home every 6 weeks.
The role also involves ongoing SPC management, clinical oversight, and face-to-face training and support for care staff. This is a mix of on-site and off-site clinical support, offering approximately 10 hours of work per month.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete suprapubic catheter (SPC) changes in the client’s home every 6 weeks, in accordance with the client’s clinical needs and established care plan.
- Provide ongoing clinical oversight and management of the client’s SPC, including monitoring for complications and escalating concerns as required.
- Conduct high-intensity care assessments and develop and review individualised care plans.
- Provide clinical training and face-to-face support to support staff, including SPC management and catheter care.
- Train and upskill support staff in recognising and responding to catheter-related issues and changes in the client’s clinical presentation.
- Oversee ongoing clinical monitoring.
- Review and sign off on support worker documentation, assessments, care charts, and relevant clinical records.
- Conduct regular reviews of support plans and clinical records.
- Provide off-site clinical support and guidance to the care team as required.
About You
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience performing suprapubic catheter (SPC) changes.
- Confident and competent completing SPC catheter changes independently in a client’s home workplace.
- Able to commit to completing the client’s SPC change approximately every 6 weeks.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in SPC management, including catheter care, monitoring, troubleshooting, and recognising potential complications.
- Experience providing clinical training and support to care/support staff.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Valid Working with Children Check.
- Valid Police Check.
- Experience working with clients with complex or high-intensity care needs is highly regarded.
- Confident, calm, and detail-oriented approach to complex clinical care.
- Strong communication, documentation, and training skills.
Please note: Experience with SPC management alone is not sufficient for this role. Applicants must have demonstrated practical experience performing suprapubic catheter changes and be confident completing these changes in a client’s home.
Given the complexity of this client's needs, preference will be given to nurses with demonstrated experience in high-intensity care and regular SPC catheter changes in community/home-care settings.
