The council is seeking a Tree Management Officer to join a busy Local Council team in western Sydney, responsible for managing and maintaining public tree assets across streets, parks, and community spaces.
About the RoleAs a Tree Management Officer, you will play a key role in protecting and enhancing Council's tree assets through inspections, assessments, community engagement, and contract management. This is a diverse position suited to someone with strong arboriculture knowledge, excellent communication skills, and experience working within a local government or asset management environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections of Council's public tree assets to assess health, condition, risk, and maintenance requirements.
- Process Tree Preservation Order applications, including site inspections, permit assessments, and providing expert advice to residents.
- Investigate tree-related incidents, property damage, and root-related infrastructure issues.
- Coordinate and monitor Council's tree planting, replacement, and maintenance programmes.
- Provide recommendations for the ongoing management of the Council's tree assets.
- Supervise and manage contractors to ensure works are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
- Prepare reports, correspondence, permits, and technical documentation.
- Undertake tree risk assessments and implement corrective actions where required.
- Liaise with residents, community groups, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders regarding tree management matters.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards, and Council policies.
- Maintain accurate records and project information using Council systems.
About YouTo be successful, you will have:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Arboriculture or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in tree assessment, tree risk management, and arboriculture practices.
- Sound knowledge of Tree Preservation Orders, tree protection legislation, and relevant Australian Standards.
- Strong report writing and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Current Class C Driving Licence.
