Adventurous Graduate Occupational Therapist
Mount Isa, QLD 4825 | Full-time | Relocate & experience Outback Queensland
Ready to start your OT career somewhere you’ll actually get to do interesting work?
RedDoor Community Services is looking for aGraduate Occupational Therapist who is ready for a little adventure, plenty of variety and the opportunity to build their skills with genuine support around them.
This is alive-and-work-in-Mount-Isa role, not FIFO.
We’re looking for someone who wants to become part of our community, get to know their clients properly and experience life in North West Queensland.
OT at RedDoor looks a little different
You won’t spend every day sitting in a clinic room.
Our therapists work with clientswhere their lives actually happen.
One day you might be completing an assessment in someone’s home. Another day you could be supporting a young person to develop skills while they’re at work, meeting a client in the community, visiting one of our SIL homes, shooting hoops, cooking, heading to the shops or working alongside our Support Workers to help someone put new skills into practice.
We believe therapy should bepractical, meaningful and connected to the person’s real life.
RedDoor supports a broad range of NDIS participants, with a particular interest inyoung people, early intervention and building independence.
We also operate Supported Independent Living homes, community-based supports and supported employment and activity programs through our centres. This means you get to see the bigger picture around your clients rather than only seeing them for an isolated appointment.
As a Graduate OT, you’ll be supported to grow
We don’t expect a recent graduate to arrive knowing everything.
You’ll have access to:
- Regular clinical supervision with an experienced OT
- A structured graduate induction and gradual introduction to your caseload
- Support with clinical reasoning, assessments, report writing and NDIS processes
- Opportunities to shadow and work alongside an experience OT
- Regular case discussions and support with more complex clients
- Paid time to undertake professional development, that’s aligned with your interests and development goals
- Realistic and achievable KPIs while you build confidence and capability
- Admin support and AI-enabled tools to reduce unnecessary desk work
- A multidisciplinary environment with Support Workers, SIL Leaders, youth workers, employment staff and other professionals around you
You’ll still have room to develop your own style as a therapist, manage your appointments and learn to work independently - without being left on your own to figure everything out.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll build your own caseload while working closely with our broader team to provide holistic, individualised support.
Your work may include:
- Functional assessments
- Understanding how disability impacts everyday life
- Assessing clients in theirhome, workplace, community, school or other natural environments
- Working with clients and their families to understand their goals
- Developing practical strategies to build independence
- Supporting daily living, community participation, employment and life skills
- Equipment and assistive technology recommendations
- Working collaboratively with other professionals
- Preparing reports and recommendations for NDIS participants
- Reviewing progress and adapting supports as clients’ needs change
Who are we looking for?
First and foremost, we’re looking for theright person.
Someone who is curious about people, willing to learn and comfortable asking questions.
You’ll need to be:
- Open-minded, patient and non-judgemental
Our clients come from different backgrounds, cultures, experiences and circumstances.
- Practical and adaptable
Things don’t always happen neatly inside a clinic room - and that’s part of the job.
- A good communicator
You’ll work closely with participants, families, Support Workers and other professionals.
- Organised
You may need to juggle appointments. You will record clinical notes, undertake reports and follow-up as needed.
- Comfortable working independently while still being part of a team.
- genuine willingness to move to Mount Isa and experience life in remote Queensland.
The essentials
You’ll need:
- A recognised Occupational Therapy degree
- AHPRA registration or eligibility for registration
- Current driver’s licence
- Ability to obtain relevant NDIS check (yellow card)
What’s in it for you?
- Graduate salary from $85,000 + super, negotiable depending on experience
- $15,900+ not-for-profit salary packaging
- Housing assistance available
- Relocation assistance negotiable
- Use of work vehicles
- Regular OT supervision and graduate support
- A degree of autonomy over your workday and appointments
- Realistic KPIs
- Admin support and technology designed to reduce unnecessary paperwork
- A fun, practical team of therapists, Support Workers, youth workers and office staff
Why Mount Isa?
If you’ve spent years studying and you’re ready for something beyond the usual graduate role, this could be it.
Remote practice gives you exposure to people, situations and clinical experiences that can take years to encounter in a metropolitan role.
You’ll build relationships, learn quickly, have genuine responsibility and see the difference your work makes.
And outside of work, you’ll get the experience of living somewhere completely different - with the space, lifestyle and community that comes with North West Queensland.
