Senior Payroll Officer
One Tree Community Services is seeking a highly organised and proactive Senior Payroll Officer to coordinate the delivery of efficient payroll operations across our national organisation. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Melbourne Payroll Team while ensuring payroll functions are delivered accurately, compliant and on time.
This pivotal role provides the opportunity to contribute to a national not-for-profit organisation that supports children, families, and communities across Australia while leading payroll excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Areas of Responsibility Include:
- Manage and oversee end-to-end fortnightly payroll processing for a large, diverse workforce
- Ensuring payroll costs are correctly allocated to cost centres and general ledger accounts.
- Administering Single Touch Payroll (STP) requirements and payroll compliance obligations.
- Managing salary packaging, child support deductions, HECS obligations and Paid Parental Leave payments.
- Processing and reconciling workers compensation payments and related documentation.
- Ensuring PAYG withholding, superannuation and other payroll liabilities are calculated and remitted accurately and on time.
- Overseeing the Payroll inbox and ensuring payroll enquiries are managed promptly and professionally.
- Leading and supporting the Melbourne Payroll Team and workload coordination to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
- Working collaboratively with People and Culture and Workplace Relations to implement award and enterprise agreement changes.
- Knowledge of VECTEA, The Children’s Services Award andEducational Services (Teachers) Award
- Supporting the Payroll Manager through payroll projects, problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives.

To Be Successful in This Role, You Will Bring:
- Minimum five years' experience in a Senior Payroll Officer or similar position.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating payroll operations and training team members in payroll systems.
- Strong knowledge of payroll practices, procedures and legislative requirements.
- Comprehensive understanding of Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements and industrial relations legislation.
- Proven ability to lead,
support and develop payroll team members.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a high level of integrity, discretion and professionalism.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Advanced payroll systems experience, with HR3 and Humanforce experience highly regarded.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Experience within the not-for-profit, community services, early childhood education or childcare sector will be highly regarded.
- A current National Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain one).
