The Clinical Nurse is responsible for the delivery of direct nursing care at an advanced level while also providing team leadership of the Acute Ward and Aged Care. As a rural facility with a large catchment area, we deal with a variety of admission types. Support, supervision and direction to the Registered Nurse (RN) and other non-registered nursing personnel forms a key component of this role.

Mossman Hospital consists of an ED, Acute Ward (funded 13 beds), Aged Care (8 residents), Medical Imaging (USS & Xray only, business hours and on call after hours), Community Health and satellite Dialysis, whilst also offering outpatient services for Mental Health, ATODS, Maternity & Child Health.
Your key accountabilities
- After-hours facility management in consultation with the on-call manager.
- Direct patient care of all aspects of the Acute Ward from admission to discharge.
- Knowledge of treatment protocols and pathways for patients admitted with a range of medical conditions in the rural setting.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with team members, patients, families and other stakeholders, including participation in relevant networks to achieve work unit outcomes.
- Competence managing sick and deteriorating patients in association with the multi-disciplinary team, the ANUM and NUM.
- Competence and confidence with clinical decision making and the ability to take the lead role with sick and deteriorating patients including clinical escalation when required.
- Ability to effectively lead a team, providing leadership, supervision and feedback to team members.
- Ability to communicate clearly and assertively in the advocacy for patients and other staff.
- Knowledge of quality improvement processes and activities and ability to apply validated research to clinical practice.
- Commitment to own continued professional development and an awareness of own self-care needs.
