Seeking Expressions of Interest: Join the OUTPOST First Nations Reference Group
The Australian Partnership for Preparedness Research on Infectious Disease Emergencies (APPRISE)
We are seeking Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander researchers to join the OUTPOST First Nations Reference Group (FNRG) and contribute to publication and dissemination of data filling an important gap in knowledge of Post-Viral Syndromes including Long COVID.
The OUTcomes POST infection (OUTPOST) study investigates how often people who experience mild respiratory infections experience delayed recovery with ongoing symptoms — including Long COVID and other Post-Viral Syndromes. The study has ethics approval from the University of Melbourne, University of Current South Wales, University of Adelaide, and the Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council.
Between 2024 and 2025,
OUTPOST recruited over 1,500 people across Australia who presented with mild cold and flu symptoms (as well as non-infected controls). This includes 60 people who identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
As a member of the FNRG, you will have a meaningful role in:
- Contributing to an exciting national collaborative project
- Guiding the analysis of data relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants
- Developing culturally appropriate communications and resources
- Shaping recommendations for organisations including Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs)
Members will be remunerated at a rate of $50/hr for their involvement. Remuneration will be made according to member preference (direct payment, Coles vouchers or digital credit card).
