About the Program
The Arthur Petersen Diversionary Centre (APDC) provides a diversion-from-custody service through a rest and recovery program, primarily supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults who are intoxicated or at risk of intoxication.
About the Role
The Care Worker provides social and personal support to clients accessing the APDC and helps maintain a safe, secure and supportive environment.
The role involves supporting clients during their rest and recovery, monitoring their wellbeing and safety, providing appropriate assistance, and making referrals to relevant services where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide respectful and culturally appropriate care and support to clients.
- Monitor client wellbeing and safety during their stay at APDC.
- Assist clients with their personal and support needs.
- Maintain a safe, secure and supportive environment.
- Complete client records, shift books and required documentation accurately.
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Identify client needs and make appropriate referrals to relevant services.
- Communicate effectively with clients,
colleagues and external service providers.
- Follow APDC policies, procedures, safety requirements and reporting processes.
- Support the team with other duties relevant to the operation of the service.
What We Are Looking For
The successful applicant will have:
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Sound computer skills and basic knowledge of data entry and reporting.
- A strong understanding of privacy and confidentiality principles.
- The ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- A respectful, non-judgemental and client-focused approach.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- The ability to remain calm and skilled in challenging situations.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including afternoon, night and weekend shifts.
- A current National Police Check.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a care, support, community services, health, homelessness, alcohol and other drugs, or similar environment.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
