Talent International is proud to partner with ASC to recruit a Principal Mechanical Engineer for a permanent opportunity within ASC's Whole of Boat Integration & Performance team.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced senior mechanical engineering professional to join ASC and contribute at a whole-of-platform level within one of Australia's most complex engineering environments.
Reporting to the Head of Whole of Boat Integration & Performance, you will join a specialist engineering group of approximately 35 people and work alongside senior leaders across IV&V;, Electrical Engineering, Signatures, Certification and Configuration.
This is not a traditional mechanical design role. As Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will provide senior engineering leadership and technical authority across complex submarine systems, interfaces, integration activities and engineering changes.
What you'll be responsible for
- Providing mechanical engineering authority across complex submarine engineering activities.
- Leading multidisciplinary technical investigations and engineering assessments.
- Reviewing and approving mechanical designs, calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
- Assessing system interfaces and understanding the broader platform impact of mechanical engineering changes.
- Supporting defect investigations,
root cause analysis and remediation strategies.
- Providing technical direction across design, integration, certification and engineering assurance.
- Balancing safety, performance, cost and schedule to deliver practical engineering outcomes.
- Mentoring engineers and providing senior technical advice to ASC, Defence and external stakeholders.
- Operating with considerable independence and acting as an engineering authority across complex and critical engineering activities.
What we're looking for
You will ideally bring:
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience working within complex, highly integrated engineering environments.
- Robust capability across mechanical systems, structures, equipment and system interfaces.
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering activities.
- Strong experience across technical assurance, engineering risk, configuration and governance.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and technical communication skills.
- CPEng or equivalent professional recognition.
- Eligibility to obtain an Australian Defence security clearance and meet applicable ITAR requirements.
