Ecology Services Victoria is a Melbourne-based ecological consultancy delivering ecology, arboriculture and GIS mapping services across Victoria. We work with developers, councils, utilities, contractors and government agencies on projects ranging from residential subdivisions to large infrastructure projects. We're a small, hands-on team, so you'll get real field responsibility and direct mentoring from senior ecologists.

We're looking for an early to mid-level ecologist to join us immediately, with a primary focus on fauna salvage and threatened species work. You'll spend much of your time in the field on construction and vegetation removal sites, ensuring wildlife is protected and relocated safely and in line with permit and project requirements.

What you'll do

- Conduct pre-clearance fauna surveys and act as fauna spotter-catcher during tree removal, pruning and vegetation clearance
- Capture, handle and relocate native fauna, including hollow-dependent species
- Undertake targeted threatened species surveys using a range of methods
- Record field data accurately and contribute to salvage reports and technical assessments

- Work safely alongside arborists, plant operators and civil contractors on active sites

What you'll bring (essential)

- Degree in ecology, environmental science, zoology, wildlife biology or a related field
- Demonstrated fauna handling experience
- Current Construction Induction (White) Card
- Strong awareness of site safety and comfort working outdoors in all conditions
- Transparent communication skills and good attention to detail

Desirable

- Working at Heights certification
- Vegetation and botany knowledge (flora identification, vegetation quality assessment) - not required, but a definite bonus
- Experience with threatened species survey guidelines and Victorian environmental legislation

What we offer

- Immediate start
- Mentoring and career development in a growing consultancy
- Varied projects across metropolitan and regional Victoria
- A supportive, small-team environment where your work makes a visible difference
