Graduate Intelligence Officer
- Salary: $62,104- $79,753 (plus superannuation)
- Fixed-term position for 12 months
- Usual hours of work: Full-time

The Role
The Graduate Intelligence Officer will gain practical experience across intelligence, education, compliance and investigations. With guidance from experienced intelligence professionals, they will learn to collect and assess information, identify patterns and prepare intelligence products that support operational decision-making. They will also gain exposure to operational teams and partner agencies, build their professional networks and develop a strong foundation for a career in intelligence, compliance or investigations.
Key accountabilities include:
- Accurately enter, update and maintain information in computer-based systems.
- Develop an understanding of the compliance setting, including emerging issues, and raise relevant information with senior team members.
- Assist with collecting, checking and organising information from community reports, compliance operations and investigations for intelligence and planning purposes.
- Contribute to routine intelligence products such as briefs, operational alerts, target profiles and assessments.
- Provide administrative and intelligence support to officers and investigators, escalating complex matters appropriately.
- Participate in structured learning, on-the-job training and feedback to build knowledge of intelligence processes, relevant systems and the operating environment.
The Team
The position of Graduate Intelligence Officer will work within Major Fisheries Crime Unit branch,
which sits within the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) group.
The VFA supports the development of sustainable recreational and commercial fishing and aquaculture activities in Victoria and delivers recreational fishing and boating infrastructure projects and programs. VFA is committed to getting more people fishing by creating opportunities for people of all abilities to try fishing; to making it safer, cheaper and easier for the boating and fishing communities to get out on the water; and to making local seafood more readily available for everyone to enjoy.
Our function is to ensure that the Government, Victorian fishing sector and general community obtain the benefits of careful management to ensure demand can be sustainably supported into the future. This is achieved by matching demand to fish stocking and infrastructure, while providing up to date information on resource condition and supporting regulatory requirements.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:
- Learning agility: Willingness to learn intelligence concepts, systems and procedures, seek feedback and apply new knowledge to assigned work.
- Research and analysis: Ability to gather and review information, identify straightforward patterns or issues and present findings clearly with guidance.
- Digital capability: Confidence using Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn database and information management systems.
- Planning and organising: Plans and completes allocated tasks within agreed timeframes, follows procedures and seeks guidance when priorities or requirements are unclear.
- Teamwork and communication: Works cooperatively with others, communicates clearly and respectfully, and contributes to a supportive and inclusive team environment.
- Integrity: Acts ethically, handles information appropriately and demonstrates commitment to the Code of Conduct for Victorian Public Sector Employees and VFA values.
