Your opportunity
Wagering brings together complex regulation, significant commercial relationships and decisions that directly affect customers. As Deputy General Counsel at Tabcorp, you’ll advise at that intersection—helping senior leaders resolve difficult legal questions and turn commercial priorities into workable outcomes.
Reporting to the General Counsel – Wagering, Media and Corporate, you’ll be a principal legal adviser to our core wagering business. This 12-month contract offers a broad remit across products, operations, strategic partnerships and regulatory matters, with scope to influence decisions early and guide them through to delivery.
Your role
You’ll combine strategic advice with hands-on legal work, bringing transparent judgement to matters where the commercial, regulatory and customer implications are closely connected. Day-to-day you will:
- Advise on wagering products, operations and customer matters, helping teams identify legal issues and develop practical solutions.
- Partner with senior leaders on regulatory and government-facing matters, translating obligations into clear advice.
- Negotiate and draft complex commercial agreements and strategic partnerships.
- Advise on arrangements with sporting bodies, racing organisations and other industry participants.
- Guide the business on customer complaints, compliance and conduct matters.
- Manage external counsel, legal budgets and service delivery.
What you’ll bring
You’re a proven commercial lawyer who can form a clear view, explain the trade-offs and help the business decide how to proceed. You build credibility quickly and know when to challenge, when to escalate and how to keep matters moving.
You’ll bring:
- Admission as an Australian legal practitioner.
- Substantial legal experience advising regulated or consumer-facing businesses.
- Strong commercial drafting and negotiation skills, including complex agreements.
- Experience interpreting regulatory obligations and advising on compliance matters.
- Sound judgement and the confidence to advise and influence senior decision-makers.
- An interest in wagering and racing; experience in these or related regulated industries would be valued.
What’s in it for you
For an accomplished lawyer who enjoys breadth, this role combines senior advisory responsibility with direct involvement in the work. You’ll engage with executives, commercial teams and industry stakeholders, applying your judgement to issues that matter to the business.
Our benefits include:
- Ticketing to some of Australia’s biggest racing and sporting events.
- Wellbeing programs and access to our wellbeing app.
- Corporate discounts and offers from leading retailers.
- A diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone belongs.
