Better Wine Co is looking for two wine people to join us, one in Sydney and one in Melbourne.
We import and represent a growing portfolio of wines from some of our favourite producers across Europe, with a strong focus on France and Italy. We work mainly with restaurants, wine bars, sommeliers and independent retailers, and we're looking for someone local who can get these wines in front of people regularly.
The job is pretty simple. Be out in the market. Show the wines. Look after our existing customers. Find new ones. Follow things up properly. When we release a current producer or someone asks to taste something, we want to get the wines in front of them while the interest is there.
You'll work closely with Simon and me. We'll continue to look after key accounts and be in market for producer visits, launches and training. You'll give us the regular local presence between those visits and help us build BWC in Sydney or Melbourne.
What you'll be doing
- Around three days per fortnight on the road showing wine
- Looking after and growing existing accounts
- Finding and opening new restaurants, wine bars and independent retailers
- Following up leads, newsletters and new releases
- Organising your own appointments and planning your days
- Managing samples and following up tastings
- Keeping good records of visits, samples, orders and opportunities
- Feeding back what you're seeing and hearing in the market
- Around one additional day per fortnight for admin, follow-up and planning
Who we're looking for
Wine sales experience would be our preference. If you're already a rep and looking for a flexible part-time role with a good European portfolio, we'd really like to hear from you.
We're also very open to a sommelier or experienced wine professional who wants to move from hospitality into daytime sales. This could work particularly well alongside an existing hospitality role and gives someone the chance to build proper sales experience without having to leave the floor completely.
Ideally you'll have:
- At least two years' experience working with wine
- WSET, CMS or equivalent wine knowledge and experience
- Good European wine knowledge, particularly France and Italy
- Wine sales experience highly regarded
- Existing relationships with restaurants, wine bars or independent retailers would be a big plus
- Confidence talking about and presenting wine
- Good organisation and follow-up
- A current driver's licence and your own reliable vehicle, with the ability to travel throughout Sydney or Melbourne as part of the role
More than anything, we want someone who genuinely likes wine and enjoys sharing it with people.
You don't need to know every producer or appellation in our portfolio from day one. We can teach you that. We want someone curious and willing to learn, who turns up prepared and treats people well.
Good manners matter to us. So does being kind, respectful, reliable and organised. We're a small team and want someone who enjoys working with people and represents our producers in the right way.
The role
This is primarily a daytime role, starting at around four days per fortnight.
We're looking to fill both positions as soon as possible ahead of the busy sales season.
The roles are part time to begin with, but we're growing. For the right people, there is plenty of scope for them to become larger and potentially full-time over time.
One role in Sydney. One role in Melbourne.
If you know wine, like people and think you'd enjoy representing some seriously good producers, we'd love to hear from you.
