About the role
Discover Early Learning Camillo is seeking a Childcare Centre Cook to join our team on a part-time basis in Kelmscott, WA 6111. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young children by providing nutritious, delicious, and age-appropriate meals in a vibrant early learning environment. As Childcare Centre Cook, you will play a vital role in supporting the health, wellbeing, and development of the children in our care through your culinary expertise and commitment to nutritional excellence.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and prepare nutritious, balanced meals and snacks that meet the dietary requirements and developmental needs of children across various age groups
- Adhere to all food safety and hygiene standards, including proper food handling, storage, and preparation procedures in compliance with relevant legislation and centre policies
- Manage kitchen inventory, including ordering supplies, monitoring stock levels, and maintaining accurate records of food usage
- Cater to dietary preferences, allergies, and cultural requirements, working closely with educators and parents to ensure all children's needs are met
- Prepare special dietary meals as needed, including options for children with medical conditions such as allergies, anaphylaxis and developmental considerations
- Maintain a clean and organised kitchen environment, including daily cleaning and sanitisation of equipment and work surfaces
- Liaise with centre management and educational staff to understand upcoming events, special occasions, or menu requirements
- Support the centre's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility in food purchasing and waste management
What we're looking for
- Formal qualification in commercial cookery or hospitality, or equivalent practical experience in a professional kitchen environment
- Current knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards, including understanding of allergen management and cross-contamination prevention
- Demonstrated experience cooking for groups, with the ability to prepare meals in bulk whilst maintaining quality and nutritional value
- Understanding of child nutrition and age-appropriate portion sizes, with knowledge of dietary guidelines for early learning settings
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with educators, management, and parents
- A genuine passion for supporting children's health and wellbeing through quality nutrition
- Current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain one) is essential for this role
- Current food handler's certificate or willingness to obtain one
- Experience in an early learning or childcare setting is highly desirable
- Up-to 30 hours a week
