Project Haulage Australia is an established, family-owned transport company specialising in interstate open-trailer, project and oversize freight throughout Australia.
Based at our Yatala depot, we employ more than 25 people and operate a fleet of approximately 100 vehicles, comprising company-owned trucks and trailers together with regular subcontractors and tow operators.
We are seeking an experienced Safety & Compliance Officer to oversee our workplace safety, heavy-vehicle compliance and accreditation systems.
This is a practical, hands-on position working closely with the directors, operations team, drivers, subcontractors and workshop. An interest or experience in HR and employee management would also be highly regarded.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain PHA's safety management and heavy-vehicle accreditation systems.
- Monitor fatigue, maintenance, mass, dimension and load-restraint compliance.
- Support OSOM permit applications, route planning and access-condition compliance.
- Conduct workplace inspections, internal audits and driver compliance reviews.
- Investigate incidents, near misses and compliance breaches.
- Coordinate driver inductions,
toolbox meetings and refresher training.
- Manage corrective actions and maintain appropriate compliance records.
- Monitor regulatory changes and communicate relevant requirements to the business.
- Support subcontractor and tow-operator compliance.
- Provide the directors with a concise weekly safety and compliance update.
About you
- Experience in heavy-vehicle transport safety or compliance.
- Sound knowledge of the Heavy Vehicle National Law, Chain of Responsibility and WHS requirements.
- Experience with fatigue, maintenance, load restraint and restricted-access vehicles.
- Robust communication, investigation and recordkeeping skills.
- A practical and approachable style, with a willingness to work directly with drivers and mechanics.
- Relevant safety, auditing or incident-investigation qualifications are preferred.
- Experience with NHVAS, HVA, WAHVA or OSOM operations would be highly regarded.
- Human Resources experience or qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential.
