The Green Life Soil Co is looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable horticulturist or permaculturalist to join our team in a full time, customer-facing role. A large part of the role involves talking with customers about their gardens, helping identify problems and recommending practical solutions. This is also a hands-on retail and administration role involving serving customers in store and over the phone, responding to email enquiries, processing sales and invoices, maintaining stock records and using computer-based point-of-sale and inventory systems.
Key responsibilities
Providing knowledgeable, friendly customer service in store and over the phone
Helping customers troubleshoot gardening problems and select appropriate products
Responding to customer enquiries by email
Processing sales, orders and invoices
Using POS and stock inventory systems accurately
Receiving and maintaining stock and keeping the retail area well presented
Caring for plants in the small nursery section
Helping customers load bags and other products
Working flexibly with other team members as priorities change throughout the day
About you
Has sound practical horticultural knowledge and experience
Has horticultural qualifications and/or a strong background in permaculture
Has a genuine interest in organic and sustainable gardening
Enjoys working with people and helping them solve gardening problems
Can communicate horticultural information clearly and practically
Is confident using computers and learning new software
Is comfortable working with point-of-sale, invoicing and stock/inventory systems
Has excellent attention to detail and can work accurately
Can prioritise tasks in a busy retail setting
Works well as part of a small team where roles sometimes overlap
