Drive smarter procurement at Banyule Council throughanalysis, insight, strategy and influence
BanyuleCity Council is seeking a Category Lead to establish the category function anddrive strategic outcomes across key spend areas.
This newlycreated role plays a critical part in shaping category strategy, market insightand sourcing direction, enabling better commercial decisions across the organization.
Workingclosely with the Senior Procurement Coordinator, you will bridge strategy anddelivery, ensuring procurement activity is informed, prioritized, and alignedto Banyule City Councils values

You'll partner with procurement colleagues, Finance andbusiness leaders to identify opportunities early, guide informed decisions andstrengthen procurement capability across Council. You will also provideleadership and coaching to the Sustainable Procurement Officer. You'll:
Leadthe foundational development for category planning and strategydevelopment across priority spend areas
Providemarket intelligence, demand analysis and commercial insight
Identifyvalue opportunities including savings, risk reduction and serviceimprovement
Developstructured sourcing briefs to guide procurement delivery
Provideguidance to the Sustainable Procurement Officer to ensure sustainabilityis integrated within key strategic categories.
Supportprocurement pipeline planning and early engagement with stakeholders
Partnerbroadly across Council to improve procurement outcomes
This role is part of Banyule's Leadership Network –you'llhaveopportunities to grow your skills and experience of leadership and develop yourskills as an organisational leader beyond your role-basedexpertise
What you'll bring/what we are looking for
We are looking for a commercially astute and collaborativeprocurement professional who can turn complex data and market insights intoclear, practical strategies.
You will be a confident influencer and trustedadviser who brings people with you, challenges conventional thinking and ismotivated by delivering sustainable value for Council and our community. Tosucceed in this role, you will have:
1.Tertiary qualifications in business, finance,procurement, supply chain, commerce or a related discipline. Or have lesserqualifications and extensive experience in a senior category management role.
2.Strong commercial, negotiation and contractmanagement skills,
3.Proven ability to deliver strategic sourcingoutcomes through effective market analysis, planning, and structuredprocurement processes.
4.Excellent communication and influencingskills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels and managecomplex interactions with clarity and professionalism.
5.Strong analytical capability and highattention to detail, enabling accurate assessment of data, supplier informationand procurement risks to support informed decision making.
