We are an independent specialist veterinary dermatology practiceseeking an enthusiastic and capable veterinary nurse to join our growing Brisbane team.Our dermatology team works across several multidisciplinary specialist veterinary hospitals in Brisbane, providing the opportunity to work alongside a broad range of veterinary specialists while remaining part of a dedicated, close-knit dermatology team.
Depending on the successful applicant and practice requirements, there may be the opportunity for the position to be primarily based on either the north or west side of Brisbane.About the roleThis is a varied position combining general veterinary nursing with the opportunity to develop advanced dermatology-specific nursing skills.
You will work closely with a team of specialist veterinary dermatologists and highly trained dermatology nurses, with considerable opportunity to expand your knowledge of dermatological disease, diagnostics and treatment, while developing advanced nursing and client communication skills.Key responsibilitiesAssisting specialist dermatologists with consultations, diagnostic procedures and treatmentsGeneral veterinary nursing duties, including patient handling and restraint, preparation for procedures, anaesthetic monitoring, patient recoveryPreparation and assistance with dermatological procedures including skin biopsies, ear procedures, advanced imaging (CT and MRI scanning) and other diagnostic investigationsCollection, preparation, handling and interpretation of dermatological diagnostic samples including cytology samplesPerforming nurse dermatology consultations, including client education,
treatment demonstrations and follow-up carePerforming intradermal allergy testing following appropriate trainingCommunicating with clients regarding treatment plans, medications and ongoing management of chronic dermatological conditionsMaintaining accurate clinical records and assisting with coordination of patient careWorking collaboratively with our dermatologists, dermatology nurses, referring veterinarians and the wider multidisciplinary specialist hospital teamsAbout youHold a veterinary nursing qualification and have experience working in a veterinary clinical environmentHave excellent animal handling and general nursing skillsBe able to commute to more than one location in south-east QueenslandEnjoy communicating with clients and helping them understand their pet's condition and treatmentHave strong organisational skills and exercise meticulous attention to detailBe comfortable working both independently and as part of a teamHave an interest in developing advanced nursing skills and knowledgeEnjoy working with chronic and complex cases where positive communication and continuity of care can make a significant difference to patients and their familiesIndustry-leading wages, commensurate with experience and skillsA 4-day working week with no on-call workPaid time off between Christmas and New Year in addition to a four week annual leave allowanceAn annual continuing education allowance of $2,000One week of paid study leave to attend approved continuing educationExtensive on-the-job training in specialist veterinary dermatologyThe prospect to develop advanced skills in dermatology nursing, intradermal allergy testing and nurse-led dermatology consultationsExposure to interesting and challenging specialist casesThe opportunity to work alongside and learn from a group of specialist veterinary dermatologists and experienced dermatology nursesA role within an independent practice where nursing skills, professional development and high-quality patient and client care are genuinely valued
