We repair and maintain a variety of GA aircraft including light sport, experimental, single engine trainers, complex single engines, twin engines, seaplanes, warbirds and much moreAbout the roleAirag Aviation Services is seeking a skilled Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Structures) to join its team on a full-time basis at Bankstown Aerodrome.
The position is responsible for inspecting, repairing, modifying, fabricating and replacing aircraft structural and airframe components using approved maintenance data, engineering drawings and manufacturer procedures.
The role involves working with sheet metal and composite materials, carrying out corrosion treatment and structural surface protection, and documenting completed maintenance in accordance with applicable aviation safety and airworthiness requirementsDuties & ResponsibilitiesInspect aircraft frames, airframes and structural components for cracks, corrosion,
deformation, wear and other defectsAssess structural damage against approved maintenance data, structural repair manuals, engineering drawings and manufacturer specificationsDismantle and reassemble aircraft structural assemblies and remove damaged or defective airframe components as requiredRepair, modify and replace aircraft structural components, including fuselage sections, wings, control surfaces, panels, fairings and associated assembliesFabricate, form, fit and install aircraft sheet-metal components and structural repair sections using approved materials and proceduresPerform drilling, cutting, bending, riveting, fastening, bonding and sealing activities using appropriate aircraft-maintenance tools and equipmentCarry out repairs to metal and composite aircraft structures in accordance with approved technical data and engineering instructionsMeasure dimensions, clearances and structural tolerances using precision measuring equipment and verify that completed work meets prescribed specificationsIdentify, remove, treat and prevent corrosion on aircraft structures and components using approved maintenance processes and materialsPrepare repaired aircraft surfaces and apply approved primers, sealants,
protective coatings and finishes where required as part of structural maintenanceAssist with inspections and carry out quality checks on completed structural repairs under appropriate supervision to verify compliance with applicable technical, airworthiness and safety requirementsRecord defects, inspections, repairs, materials used and completed maintenance activities in the required maintenance documentation and technical recordsComply with approved maintenance procedures, workplace health and safety requirements, aviation regulations and organisational quality-control proceduresCoordinate with licensed aircraft maintenance engineers, engineering personnel and other maintenance staff to complete aircraft maintenance and repair activities safely and efficientlyMaintain aircraft-maintenance tools, equipment and work areas in a protected, clean and serviceable conditionSkills & Qualifications required for the positionCertificate IV in Aeroskills (Structures), or a relevant equivalent qualificationA minimum of one to two years of relevant full-time experience in aircraft structural maintenance and repairDemonstrated experience inspecting, repairing and replacing metal and composite aircraft structuresExperience interpreting structural repair manuals, engineering drawings, maintenance instructions and manufacturer specificationsCompetence in aircraft sheet-metal fabrication, riveting, drilling, forming, fastening, sealing and corrosion-control proceduresProficiency in using aircraft structural-repair tools, power tools and precision measuring equipmentExperience in aircraft surface preparation and applying approved protective coatings would be advantageousStrong understanding of aviation safety, quality-control and airworthiness requirementsHigh attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to safe and accurate workmanship
