Our technology provides threat detection and screening solutions for customers in our key markets: aviation, ports and borders, defence, and urban security.Our expertise spans 21 global offices, seven manufacturing sites and five R&D; centres, with a global network of 3,000 dedicated colleagues contributing towards over 40 years at the frontline of advances in safety and security.This results in careers built on variety and the prospect to work on a range of state-of-the-art solutions, where you can develop your knowledge and experience every day.Job DescriptionSmiths Detection is seeking experienced Field Service Engineers to join our growing service team across multiple locations in New South Wales.We currently have opportunities based at:Sydney Airport – supporting critical aviation security operations within the airport environment.
These positions operate on a 4-on, 4-off rotating roster consisting of 2 x 12-hour day shifts followed by 2 x 12-hour night shifts (inclusive of 1-hour breaks).
Botany – supporting customers across a broader portfolio including airports, logistics facilities, government sites, and other off-site customer locations.
These positions may involve travel to customer sites as required.This is a hands-on role suited to experienced technicians or engineers who enjoy troubleshooting complex equipment, solving technical challenges, and working directly with customers in highly operational environments.This role requires a strong mechanical, electrical,



and electronics fault-finding capability, a proactive approach to learning and knowledge sharing, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a close-knit team.Key ResponsibilitiesTroubleshoot, service, maintain and repair X-ray and trace detection equipmentComplete preventative maintenance activities in accordance with service contracts and maintenance schedulesRespond to equipment faults and corrective maintenance requirements within agreed service levels and KPIsDiagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults using multimeters, laptops, software diagnostics, and testing equipmentTest equipment components and circuits to identify root causes of failuresReplace belts, rollers, motors, X-ray generators, and other mechanical or electronic componentsInspect, clean, vacuum, de-grease, repair, and replace internal machine componentsInstall and commission new equipment at customer sites alongside internal teams, subcontractors, and customer stakeholdersComplete service reports, maintenance records, and field service documentation accurately and in a timely mannerManage spare parts consumption and inventory transactions within internal systemsParticipate in technical, safety, compliance, and product training programsSupport customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders through effective communication and problem-solvingEnsure tools and test equipment are maintained, calibrated,



and fit for purposeAnalyse field service trends and provide recommendations for equipment and process improvementsContribute to continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence projectsProvide guidance, training, and support to junior technicians and new team membersPromote and lead safe work practices while maintaining a strong safety cultureParticipate in regular team meetings, safety briefings, and operational reviewsQualificationsYou will bring:Certificate III Trade Qualification or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, IT, or a related disciplineMinimum 3+ years' experience in a field service, maintenance, engineering, or technical support roleStrong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills across mechanical, electrical, and electronic systemsExperience working with industrial equipment, automation systems, security technology, conveyors, machinery, or similar equipmentAbility to interpret technical information and diagnose equipment issues methodicallyStrong communication and customer service skillsBasic proficiency with Microsoft Office applicationsA current unrestricted or provisional driver's licenceAbility to obtain and maintain relevant security clearances and industry licencesFlexibility to work across a 24/7 rotating shift rosterAdditional InformationJoin us and we'll help build your career, with excellent training and opportunities for career growth across the business, both locally and globally.
