Our Client is seeking an experienced Yardperson to join their Team in Northam.
This is a hands-on yard role involving the safe movement, loading and unloading of materials, with a strong focus on forklift operation, load security, safety and dealing professionally with delivery drivers, couriers and suppliers.
You will be working with bulky materials and will need to be comfortable moving between forklift operation and general yard duties, including some manual lifting.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a forklift to move materials around the yard and loading areas
- Load and unload trucks, couriers and supplier deliveries
- Move and position bulky materials safely and efficiently
- Secure and tie downloads correctly prior to transport
- Assist with general yard duties and manual handling
- Regularly get on and off the forklift to carry out yard tasks
- Check incoming and outgoing materials
- Sign off consignment notes and delivery documentation
- Communicate clearly and courteously with delivery drivers, couriers and suppliers
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe yard
- Follow site procedures and safe work practices at all times
- Take care when operating around people, vehicles, buildings and stored materials
About You
The right person will be reliable, patient and safety-conscious, with a practical approach to working in a busy yard environment.
You will understand that this role is not about rushing. Care, patience and doing the job properly are essential.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has solid forklift operating experience
- Is confident handling bulky and awkward materials
- Takes due care when loading, unloading and positioning materials
- Does not speed or take shortcuts
- Is comfortable getting in and out of a forklift throughout the day
- Can safely secure and tie downloads
- Is polite, approachable and qualified when dealing with drivers and suppliers
- Can communicate clearly and follow instructions
- Is comfortable completing and signing delivery/consignment documentation
- Takes pride in keeping the yard organised and safe
- Works well as part of a team
Essential Requirements
- Current LF Forklift Licence - 2.5 tonnes and above
- White Card
- Demonstrated forklift experience
- Experience loading and unloading trucks
- Understanding of safe load restraint and tie-down procedures
- Good communication skills
- Strong safety awareness
- Reliable transport to Northam
