Join a growing Victorian steel fabrication and processing business as a Maintenance Fitter & Turner. Our client operates its own fabrication and processing facility and has expanded its maintenance team, creating a new role for a qualified tradesperson who can both keep machinery running and make the parts to fix it.
This is a permanent full-time position (subject to a probationary period), working a day shift in a hands-on workshop where you'll have real autonomy, variety and the chance to put your machining skills to work every day.
About this prospect:
- Newly created role in a growing business, not a replacement position
- $90,000 - $110,000 per year (depending on experience)
- Day shift: approx. 6:00am start, finishing 2:30pm with OT available, Monday to Friday
- Flexibility on start times considered (7:00am or 8:00am starts may be possible)
- Occasional weekend work, with arrangements discussed upfront
- Located in Sunshine West
- Permanent full-time position (subject to a probationary period)
What you'll be doing:
- Carrying out preventative, corrective and breakdown maintenance across steel fabrication and processing equipment
- Diagnosing faults, finding the root cause and returning machines to service safely and efficiently
- Using the lathe and mill without supervision to manufacture, modify or repair parts such as bearings, rollers and shafts
- Maintaining and repairing plasma cutting equipment, welders, drills, band saws and workshop machinery
- Completing general mechanical maintenance,
including gearboxes and mechanical drives
- Undertaking minor welding, fabrication and equipment repairs where required
- Working with production and workshop teams to prioritise urgent repairs and planned maintenance
- Keeping your work area clean and following safe work practices
A typical job: identify a failed bearing or roller, remove it, machine a replacement on the lathe or mill, and reinstall it.
To be considered for this role:
- Completed trade qualification as a Fitter and Turner
- Demonstrated experience in general mechanical maintenance
- Proven ability to operate a lathe and milling machine independently
- Practical experience diagnosing, repairing and maintaining industrial machinery
- Ability to assess a worn or failed component and machine a suitable replacement
- Strong problem-solving skills and comfortable working with limited supervision
- Reliable, communicative and proactive
- Full Australian working rights
Highly regarded, but not essential:
- Experience with plasma cutters, beam lines or steel-processing equipment
- Welding, fabrication or basic electrical fault-finding experience
- Background in a fabrication, steel or similar industrial environment
Strong maintenance and machining candidates from other industries are encouraged to apply. You don't need experience on every machine listed.
