Job Description
Position: APS5/6 Investigations Officers
Location: Canberra, ACT
Start date: ASAP
Duration: Approx. 12 months with potential to extend (Non-ongoing or Section 26)
Pay rate:
APS5: $82,336 – $90,234 per annum
APS6: $91,140 – $102,152 per annum
Security requirements: Australian Citizenship required. Candidates must hold a minimum Baseline security clearance at time of application
Overview:
An Australian Government agency is seeking experienced APS5 and APS6 Investigations Officers to join a high-performing regulatory team responsible for supporting compliance and investigations within a complex legislative workplace.
These positions will contribute to investigations into potential non-compliance and avoidance schemes, including analysing financial information, identifying risks and issues, and supporting appropriate regulatory action.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with experience in investigations, compliance, financial audits, assurance, regulatory work or similar environments who are looking to contribute to high-profile work with a strong public purpose.
Responsibilities:
APS5:
- Gather, analyse and document information to support investigations into potential non-compliance and avoidance schemes.
- Review documents and financial information to identify gaps, inconsistencies, risks and potential issues.
- Use data and intelligence tools to identify high-risk behaviours, entities and emerging compliance risks.
- Assist with the preparation of briefs, reports and correspondence for decision-makers.
- Support targeted compliance activities and maintain accurate investigation records.
APS6:
- Conduct risk-based investigations into potential non-compliance and avoidance schemes.
- Analyse financial, regulatory and intelligence information to identify risks and support further compliance action.
- Prepare high-quality briefs,
reports and correspondence for senior decision-makers.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of investigation, compliance and regulatory procedures.
- Provide guidance and support to junior team members and contribute to capability development.
Experience/requirements:
- Experience supporting or conducting investigations, financial audits, compliance reviews, assurance activities or similar structured regulatory work.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex information, identify risks or issues and provide well-reasoned advice.
- Strong written communication skills, particularly in preparing briefs, reports and formal correspondence.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate, high-quality work within deadlines.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills.
- Adaptability and the ability to work effectively within an evolving legislative and regulatory environment.
- For APS6 positions, demonstrated ability to work autonomously and provide guidance or support to junior staff.
- Australian Citizenship is mandatory.
- Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
- Candidates must be able to maintain political neutrality and impartiality due to the nature of the work.
