This is a 16-Month Fixed-Term Contract Covering a Period of Parental Leave
About the Role:
The Connected Beginnings Community Engagement Worker is responsible for supporting Aboriginal children and families to access and engage with early childhood education, maternal and child health, family support and school transition services. The role is community led, culturally grounded and focused on creating strong, safe and connected pathways for Aboriginal children aged 0–5 years and their families across the Biripi community.
The key objectives of the role include:
- Plan, coordinate, conduct and review Aboriginal supported playgroups, parenting programs, family activities and school readiness initiatives that respond to local need and strengthen parent-child relationships, early development and social participation.
- Support families who may be disconnected from early childhood education, maternal and child health, parenting, family support and school transition services to understand and access available supports.
- Assist in building community capacity and awareness of local early years priorities for Aboriginal children aged 0–5 years and their families.
- Conduct culturally safe outreach across the Biripi community through yarning, community events, local activities, home visits where appropriate and other engagement opportunities.
- Collaborate with schools, early childhood services, health services, family support services, community groups, the Connected Beginnings Backbone Team and partner organisations to strengthen communication, referral pathways and coordinated activities for Aboriginal children and families.
Essential Criteria:
- Confirmation of Aboriginality (preferred)
- Certificate IV qualification in Community Services or Early Childhood (preferred)
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, community strengths, local protocols, social and emotional wellbeing principles and trauma aware practice.
- Demonstrated skills in culturally safe community engagement, outreach, yarning, group facilitation, community events and family participation activities.
- Demonstrated understanding of early childhood development, school readiness, early learning, maternal and child health, parenting and family support pathways.
- Current Working with Children Check, National Police Check and any other relevant clearances required for the role.
- Current valid Driver’s Licence, minimum Class C or equivalent.
