About The Remote Pools Project:
The Remote Pools Project is a community led program that improves the health and vitality of First Nations communities, for present and future generations.
Pools are much more than a place to swim, and for nowhere more so than in a remote community. Local swimming pools are a vital and valuable community resource – places to gather, connect, clean off and cool down on a hot day!
The Opportunity:
The Y NT is seeking an Aquatic Coordinator or Duty Manager to join our Remote Pools Project team and support the ongoing operation of Borroloola Pool.
This is a full-time, ongoing position, with an anticipated commencement in early November 2026. Unlike some of our seasonal remote aquatic facilities, Borroloola Pool operates year-round and is an key community facility for the Borroloola community.
Responsibilities:
- Safe Pool Operations: Support the safe and effective day-to-day operation of Borroloola Pool, ensuring a welcoming environment for the whole community.
- Team Leadership: Lead and support local staff, lifeguards and other team members to deliver safe and engaging aquatic experiences.
- Aquatic Safety: Provide lifeguard supervision and maintain high standards of water safety, emergency response and risk management.
- Program Delivery: Support and deliver aquatic, recreational, water safety and community programs based on local needs.
- Community Engagement: Build positive relationships with community members, local organizations and stakeholders and identify opportunities for partnerships, programs and events.
- Pool Plant Operations:
Support water quality monitoring, testing and general pool plant operations. Aquatic Coordinators will have greater responsibility for ensuring plant and water-quality requirements are effectively managed.
- Staff Administration: Assist with staff rostering, timesheets, training, onboarding and ongoing development.
- Facility Presentation: Maintain a clean, safe, inclusive and welcoming facility for staff and community members.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure operations are conducted in accordance with Y NT procedures, relevant legislation and aquatic industry standards.
- Site Management: Aquatic Coordinators will have additional responsibility for operational planning, reporting, budgeting, staffing and overall site performance.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Current Pool Lifeguard qualification.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Current driver’s license.
- Experience within the aquatic, recreation, sport or community services sector.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small operational team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability and willingness to live and work in a remote First Nations community.
- Willingness to learn about and understand the local community, culture and issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Ability to build respectful and effective relationships in a cross-cultural environment.
Highly regarded:
- Pool Plant Operations / Aquatic Technical Operator qualification.
- Previous experience supervising or coordinating an aquatic facility.
- Experience leading and developing staff.
- Swim teaching or aquatic program delivery qualifications and experience.
- Previous experience living or working in a remote community.

- $10,000 p.a. Remote Living Allowance (pro rata where applicable).
