About The BUSY School…

The BUSY School is part of The BUSY Group, a not-for-profit organisation presenting nearly 50 years as a community partner providing employment services, vocational education and training, apprenticeships, mentoring, Inclusive Employment Support, and allied health services.

The BUSY School is an independent Special Assistance School with 10 campuses across Queensland and New Zealand, providing an alternative program for Year 11 and 12 students who are disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education. Our program has expanded to include The BUSY School Online (TBSO) offering versatile access to our program for all students across Queensland.

Each campus provides a supportive and safe learning environment for young people by providing them with an education program that includes vocational education and training (VET), work experience and opportunities for school-based apprenticeships and traineeships. Our team support the students to gain employability and transferability skills to increases their sense of wellbeing, resilience, belonging, academic achievement, career exploration and employment outcomes.

Our teams’ focus is centred at re-engaging our students to learn, remain eligible for a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and gain employment or further training outcomes upon student’s graduation from Year 12.

About the Role

Based at our Cairns Campus, you will provide case management and wellbeing support to vulnerable and disengaged young people. You'll work closely with students, families,



school staff, and community service providers to deliver coordinated support that promotes attendance, engagement and student success.

Key responsibilities include:

- Case managing at-risk and disengaged students from assessment through to review.
- Developing and monitoring case plans, student support plans and wellbeing goals.
- Coordinating support services with families, teachers and external providers.
- Monitoring attendance and implementing intervention strategies to support students in maintaining minimum 85% attendance.
- Providing classroom, individual and small-group support for students.
- Supporting student wellbeing through crisis intervention and referral pathways.

Skills And Experiences

About you





You are passionate about supporting young people and have experience working with vulnerable, at-risk or disengaged youth. You build strong relationships, communicate with confidence and can work collaboratively to achieve positive student outcomes.

You will bring:

- Experience working with at-risk and/or disengaged young people.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work with diverse groups including students, families, employers and service providers.
- You have knowledge and experience in working with youth in a vocational education pathway but not essential.
- Excellent communicator, and problem solver with the ability to seek out, influence and secure opportunities
- A relevant qualification (Certificate III or higher desirable).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Blue Card and National Police Check.
