Many Rivers is seeking an experienced, values-driven Finance Manager to lead core finance operations and contribute to the organisation's ongoing growth and impact. This role is responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, team leadership, business partnering and continuous improvement, supporting Many Rivers to deliver lasting impact across Australia.

The Prospect
This role is open to candidates located in either Sydney or the Coffs Harbour/Grafton area, with flexibility to work from either location.
Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Finance Manager will lead core finance operations and a small finance team, ensuring the delivery of accurate financial reporting, budgeting, compliance and financial management across the organisation. The role will work closely with leaders across the business to provide financial insights, strengthen financial controls, improve systems and processes, and support strategic decision-making.
The role requires a hands-on leader who can balance operational delivery with continuous improvement,
providing strong financial stewardship while developing team capability and fostering a culture of accountability and service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the organisation's financial accounting and reporting activities, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant financial information for management and stakeholders.
- Drive monthly and annual financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, audit preparation and financial analysis to support organisational performance and decision-making.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, procurement and fleet management functions, ensuring effective controls and efficient service delivery.
- Support organisational growth through financial planning, grant budgeting, contract administration and funding reporting requirements.
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing finance team, fostering accountability, collaboration, engagement and continuous improvement.
- Drive process improvements, systems optimisation and operational efficiencies, using data and insights to enhance productivity, compliance and service quality.
- Partner with leaders across the organisation to provide financial guidance, business insights and support for strategic and operational priorities.
- Maintain effective governance, risk management and compliance processes, including taxation, audit, asset management, insurance and financial controls.
About You
You are an experienced finance professional with a strong background in accounting, financial management and team leadership. You combine technical expertise with a practical, solutions-focused approach and enjoy working closely with stakeholders to improve performance and achieve organisational outcomes.
You are equally comfortable analysing financial data, leading a team,
improving business processes and presenting financial insights to senior leaders. Most importantly, you are motivated by purpose and committed to contributing to positive social and economic outcomes.
Please respond to the Selection Criteria:
- CA or CPA qualified with significant experience in accounting, financial management and organisational reporting.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing finance teams while delivering high-quality operational outcomes.
- Strong financial management capability, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, compliance and audit preparation.
- Proven ability to analyse complex financial information, identify trends and provide commercial insights to support decision-making.
- Experience driving process improvement, implementing controls and enhancing operational efficiency through systems and technology.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems and reporting tools, including Power BI or similar business intelligence platforms.
- Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of an organisation.

- Experience within the not-for-profit sector, government-funded programs, social enterprise or purpose-led organisations will be highly regarded.
