About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Fire Protection Technical Leader to join Stantec’s Fire Protection Engineering team. This role will suit someone who enjoys collaborating within the team and across disciplines whilst working on iconic and exciting projects.

Stantec’s Buildings team has a very strong pipeline of work. In this diverse role, you will be supporting the Fire Protection Team Leader and Engineering Project Managers, while having the chance to gain practical experience working on a variety of project types including retail, hotels, commercial, residential, shopping centers, industrial, defense, healthcare, data centers, correctional and education.

Ideally, you will have previous consulting experience on all aspects of fire protection systems including both dry and wet fire systems, fire detection systems, and suppression systems.

The role can be based in any of the following Stantec offices (Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth or Sydney).

Day to day tasks would involve:

- Be responsible for planning and managing projects from initial concept and brief, through to installation and commissioning.

- Demonstrate a high degree of technical knowledge, providing oversight and supervision to ensure successful project delivery.

- Represent Stantec externally to clients, playing a senior and active role in managing these relationships.

- Prepare and present presentations to external clients.

- Delegate tasks to senior and junior engineers, provide feedback and contribute to their development.

- Bring value to in-house discussions, design, project meetings etc.

- Keep up to date with deliverables and meet project timeframes.

- Provide input throughout the Construction phase by attending meetings and conducting site inspections.

- Provide technical competence in the planning and design of Fire Protection Services (not limited to Automatic Sprinkler System, Fire Hydrant Systems, Fire Hose Reel, Fire Detection / Building Occupant Warning Systems, Portable Fire Extinguishers / Fire Blankets, Gas Suppression / Water Mist Systems) on complex health, education, data centre and defence projects.





- Prepare drawings and calculations in support of design concepts and determine whether any performance solutions comply with the relevant performance requirements of the Building Code of Australia.

- Complete projects in terms of program, design execution, technical risk management and overall client satisfaction.

- Witness and advise in relation to fire mode response of plant and equipment under different alarm conditions (fire matrix / cause and effect planning).

- Work closely and develop trusted relationships with other project stakeholders, notably architects, contractors, builders and end users to achieve efficient and cost-effective solutions with a high-quality outcome.

- Liaise with local authorities, clients and consultant team.

- Attend project meetings.

- Contribute to the overall strategy and development of the national Fire Protection Team and to our company culture.

- Adhere to Stantec professional standards, ethics and Stantec quality procedures.

What we are ideally looking for:

- Minimum 10 years’ Fire Protection consulting experience within the Building Services industry.

- Degree qualified, chartered (CPEng), NER listed and have either FPAS or the years of completed projects available to be referenced to obtain FPAS.

- Hold existing Professional Engineer registration (e.g. RPEQ) or ability to be registered in every state of Australia.

- Have experience planning and managing successful projects.

- Strong Technical knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC) and Relevant Australian Standards.

- Ability to review Fire Engineering Brief (FEB) and Fire Engineering Report (FER) and liaise with Fire Safety Engineers to establish Fire Safety Engineering Performance Solutions.

- Experience in development of, or identifying the potential for, Fire Engineered Performance Solutions will be considered favourable, however not necessary for the role.

- Familiar with local fire system certification processes.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Data centre experience is highly valuable.

- Knowledge using HYENA.





- Ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines.

- Positive, can-do attitude.
